The Team
Our Equity Strategy team serves as Secfi’s primary client facing team. You could say it is our sales team or our business development team. While Secfi Equity Strategists are the primary drivers of revenue for the company, we are brand ambassadors who focus on solving complicated and stressful problems for our clients. Our number 1 goal is to help clients make the most of their equity and by doing just that we may benefit too. We have strong ethics and only do deals that we truly believe in. We believe that by doing good to our clients, good will come to us. We aren’t sharks; there is no zero-sum game. 

The Role
As a trusted advisor to our clients, you will guide our clients through all aspects of equity compensation including financial and tax consequences while utilizing strategies for helping our clients maximize their equity. 

You don’t need to be a current expert (not many are), but you must have a financial background and possess an ability to grasp esoteric financial concepts. You must be someone who is interested in personal finance and enjoys “talking shop”. You are someone who enjoys being an expert in their field and keeping up with the latest in the VC-backed startup world. 

You don’t need to have previous direct sales experience, but you must have some experience in sales whether it’s selling projects as a consultant or selling yourself as an entrepreneur. You are someone who gets a thrill out of winning and willing to take any proper steps needed to get there. 

So what do you need for this role then?
As a Manager on the team, you will lead a Equity Strategy team focused on servicing our partner companies and/or an industry vertical. You will be a player-coach who is equally interested in coaching your team as closing deals. While you will be leading a team, you are someone who is not afraid to get your hands dirty and do what it takes to help achieve your team’s goals. 

You need to have managerial and coaching experience. You will manage a nimble team through the ups and downs of startup life. Your team will look to you for guidance when things get tough and you will be responsible for guiding them through the difficult times. Don’t have managerial experience? You need to be entrepreneurial and have a business development mindset. You should always be looking for new opportunities and be willing to work on strategic initiatives to benefit your team and Secfi. 

You need to have perseverance. Startups are hard and everyone knows it. Things will not always go your way and there will be times when you feel like you’re getting sucker punched in the face often. You must be someone who is willing to dig deep in order to win. 
You need to have experience in similar roles or industries. We’re thinking 5+ years of a proven track record working in sales, business development, consulting, investment banking, Big 4 accounting or tax, or another fintech startup. 

You are required to hold a Series 7 and Series 63 license for this role. If you do not hold these licenses, you must be willing to study for the test in the first months of employment. Secfi will provide time and support for your studies.

Bonus Qualifications

    • Series 7 and Series 63, CPA, CFA, or other financial certifications
    • Master in Tax or equivalent degree
    • Strong knowledge of the Bay Area/US start-up ecosystem
