We create tools that help teams win, making data and video easily accessible and actionable. For media companies, we create automatically augmented video and interactive, personalized, OTT experiences. We are at the forefront of computer vision, machine learning, big data, augmented reality, and product design. Second Spectrum is the Official Optical Tracking Provider of the NBA. In addition, we are working with several football (soccer) clubs and leagues in Europe and in the US, and provide software for coaches and players to help improve their game.

Second Spectrum employs over 100 team members and is headquartered in Los Angeles (USA), with additional R&D offices in Lausanne (Switzerland) and Shanghai (China). Our engineering teams often work across these offices to define and complete projects important to corporate initiatives and growth. Several of these projects are core backend services that power multiple front-end applications across the fan experience and sports performance areas. To facilitate organization and communication across these teams, Second Spectrum is seeking a highly motivated Technical Project Manager to join our team in Los Angeles. The ideal candidate should have relevant experience in project management and a deep technical background in order to gain a full understanding of the architecture of these systems.

Responsibilities:

    • Manage projects and lead delivery teams within projects
    • Management of the day-to-day activities for a large-scale project
    • Prioritization of project deliverables and activities
    • Tracking and monitoring of project issues and escalation to management as appropriate
    • Overall project schedule and project deliverables responsibility
    • Reporting of tasks and milestones against the plan internally and to customers’ stakeholders
    • Scheduling of project meetings; compilation of minutes and actions/decisions made throughout the project
    • Tracking of project time and deliverables against budget and requirements
    • Deliver successful performance relative to defined performance metrics
    • Ability to handle challenging situations in a calm and professional manner

Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience in software implementation project management
    • Experience leading and managing teams developing large-scale backend systems that support a variety of customer facing applications
    • Flexibility and mindset to operate in a unique and fast-paced environment
    • People management and negotiation skills
    • Ability to coach and support a team in order to ensure individual and team wide delivery
    • Capability to set realistic expectations and operate in a lean startup environment
    • Background and education in a scientific or information technology field
    • Familiarity with these components of our tech stack: SQL, Node.js, web development, data pipeline problems
    • General understanding of system related topics: AWS, networking, load balancing, caching
    • Ability to recommend API’s for other applications
    • Organizational capabilities
    • Ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure
    • Familiarity with various project management tools/methodologies and understanding of respective tradeoffs
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
