In addition to our expanding business providing expert software services, Semaphore is entering an exciting new phase with our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Labbit. Labbit is the modern and adaptable lab informatics platform, the intelligent Laboratory System of the future. Overview

As a Field Application Scientist for Labbit, a modern scalable LIMS used by leading innovative laboratories, you will be an integral part of our commercial sales team. Drawing upon your experience in life sciences laboratories, you will collaborate closely with prospective customers and our sales team to understand their R&D, manufacturing, or clinical diagnostics objectives. Your role involves assessing how our product aligns with their current and future expectations, standards, and requirements, providing product evaluations and delivering demos. Additionally, you will contribute to defining laboratory workflows, integrating internal instrumentation and external software, developing documentation, and refining support processes.

You must demonstrate a deep understanding of laboratory science and software to excel in this position, effectively conveying Labbit's capabilities and technical intricacies. Your ability to grasp and master our product rapidly is crucial, as you will engage directly with leaders in the biotech and research sectors, as well as top-tier health systems and clinical laboratories. Key Responsibilities

    • Lead new customer demos and product evaluations, including workflow definition, onboarding process and potentially user training
    • Manage and resolve customer challenges during customer working sessions
    • Where required, escalate technical product issues to the engineering team and work with the engineering to facilitate resolution
    • Build support infrastructure and processes, developing documentation and training materials
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers
    • Analyze support user trends and report back to the product team to help improve the product

Must Haves

    • A minimum of three years' experience as a Field Application Scientist, preferably in a pre-sales capacity.
    • Experience in Life Sciences (Molecular Biology, Genetics, Computational Biology) or related fields with an understanding of next-generation sequencing and genetic variant data gained through education, research and/or direct industry experience. 
    • Excellent communication skills with experience conducting compelling presentations and educating or teaching various audiences, including prospective customers 
    • Strong organizational and prioritization skills that ensure project quality and timeliness  
    • Highly motivated, enjoying working both independently and in a dynamic team environment
    • Fast learner with a passion for commercializing software products that truly advance the field of genome interpretation, biotech/research, drug discovery and clinical diagnostics
    • Prior experience supporting customers in a highly technical field, demonstrating expert problem-solving and a commitment to customer success

Nice to Have

    • Experience with scripting languages and SQL querying
    • Experience with LIMS integrations 

What to Expect - Within one month

    • You’ll begin ramping up on Labbit, learning with stakeholder teams across sales, customer success and product development to understand our product, our customers and the benefits and services offered.  
    • You’ll partner with our Labbit FAS team for in-depth training on evaluation and demo processes.
    • You’ll attend sales and deal review meetings with the sales team
    • You’ll have your first one one-on-one one
    • You’ll start to understand where your strengths can benefit our teams.
    • You’ll experience a company stand-up with the team
    • You’ll become familiar with our collaboration tools (Slack, Github, Jira, GSuite, and Confluence) and engaged with our culture and channels

What to Expect - Within three months

    • You’ll focus on understanding customer needs and how Labbit can solve their problems.
    • You’ll attend and participate in customer working sessions and start configuring customer demos with assistance.
    • You’ll start to be assigned specific tasks for customers 
    • You’ll begin adding to documentation and processes
    • You’ll lead your first customer call and demo.
