Compliance Manager

As Sequoia One’s Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for managing and leading Sequoia One’s health and welfare benefit and HR related compliance projects, reporting directly to Sequoia One’s General Counsel.  This includes, but is not limited to, research and analysis on topics under ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, IRC rules that impact employer-sponsored plans (such as 125, 105, 106 and 129), account-based plans such as HRAs, HSAs, and health FSAs; stay abreast of new HR-related legislation across the U.S., such as paid family leave laws.  With respect to project management and as Sequoia One’s resident subject matter expert, you will work cross-functionally to communicate new regulatory updates and build out new processes, hold internal team trainings and draft client communications as needed.

    • Provide guidance and support to the internal Client Service Department and Data Operations team on benefit related matters;
    • Research and answer compliance and HR-related questions as it pertains to the PEO, and hold internal team trainings for team members on various topics;
    • Project manage Sequoia One’s annual compliance projects, including Medicare Part D notification, SAR distribution, and EEO-1 reporting for the PEO;
    • Liaise with vendors on the management of matters such as ACA reporting and COBRA;
    • Help develop intellectual capital on compliance related topics;
    • Manage the PEO’s documentation, such as the PEO wrap SPD template and annually audit the PEO’s on boarding documentation as it relates to benefit disclosures;
    • Provide updates to the S1 management team on various projects;
    • Complete special projects as needed

    • Legislative Updates
    • Manage client communications on topics relevant to the PEO and its clients;
    • Actively monitor/review new benefit rules and regulations and draft communications regarding such updates, as needed, both internally and externally by partnering with Sequoia Consulting Groups’ Compliance team


    • Bachelor’s and Juris Doctorate degree required (active bar license preferred)
    • 5 years of experience working in employee benefits compliance and HR-related matters
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Project and time management skills with experience overseeing internal projects cross-functionally - all the way to completion and execution
    • Detail and process-oriented with strong analytical and research skills
    • Experience in taking complex rules and regulations and distilling them down to actionable items
    • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (SmartSheet a plus)
    • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
