Serán is searching for a Senior Scientist to develop platform formulation and manufacturing technologies for the pharmaceutical industry. Technologies developed in this role will be deployed within Serán’s existing product development and GMP manufacturing business. For maximal impact, the Senior Scientist will strategically balance exciting innovation opportunities with practical implementation considerations. A passion for collaboration with the potential end users is a critical element for success in this role.
In addition to a strong scientific background, the ideal candidate would have significant experience in analytical and characterization methods for cells and biological molecules (e.g., proteins, peptides, nucleic acids, and polymers). The Senior Scientist is also expected to provide leadership, technical direction, and career mentorship to an interdisciplinary project team.

Coordinate the work of other team members
Provide technical guidance on specific projects
Provide mentorship for team members
May have direct reports

Duties and Responsibilities

Independently develops experimental protocols and templates based on project need
Independently summarizes, reports, and analyzes data to draw conclusions and proposes next steps
Identifies out of trend data, forms hypothesis and investigates
Evaluates data and draws conclusions across data sets/projects
Contributes to laboratory, instrument, and/or equipment maintenance and coordination
Communicates technical information to internal team
Independently communicates technical information to external partners
Independently leads projects
Authors technical reports and presentations with minimal guidance
Develops and manages workplans
Performs other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience

Degree in chemistry, pharmaceutical science, chemical engineering, biology, bioengineering, materials science, or closely related field
Minimum experience:
Candidates with a Ph.D. will be considered with no work experience
Candidates with a Master’s degree are required to have at least 3 years of relevant work experience
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree are required to have at least 5 years of relevant work experience

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
