Serán Biosciences is seeking a highly motivated business development manager/director to join its rapidly growing commercial team.  The successful candidate will identify, develop, and nurture strategic new business relationships, identify and nurture prospects accounts and leads, and pursue business opportunities with the aim of growing Serán’s business.  The position requires excellent technical and business understand of CDMO drug product services, and ability to articulate Serán’s value proposition to customers.   Other duties include managing existing accounts, drafting proposals, and keeping commercial business systems up to date.   

Successful candidate may be remote but will require frequent travel to Bend.  

Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Participate in site management team meetings and in strategic annual planning, including setting objectives and strategies as well as take accountability for implementation and results. 
    • Resolve client issues, complaints and anticipate key account improvements by way of project management guidance and outreach. 
    • Manage communications between customer and internal teams and assist with management of team activities assigned to each of your customers.

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Build solid, trusting, and measurable relationships with clients and companies while developing a complete understanding of client needs. 
    • Work with various internal stakeholders (e.g., Executive, Tech Ops, Project Mgmt, etc.) to build and plan strategically to improve customer results. 
    • Manage both Serán’s existing pipeline and new business opportunities.
    • Adeptly present Serán’s capabilities and value proposition to new clients.
    • Negotiate agreements as part of a team with BD, corporate, and legal leadership. Agreements include CDAs, MSAs, and commercial agreements. 
    • Contribute to the development of proposals and presentations for new business materials to create and nurture business opportunities and partnerships.
    • Identify trends and customer needs, building a short/medium/long-term sales pipeline in accordance with targets.
    • Support the BD team in developing new service offerings and analyzing market trends.
    • Assist in the coordination and implementation of marketing strategies, and delegate tasks that achieve strategic goals.
    • Communicate customer feedback to internal teams.
    • Participate in client visits, regional and national tradeshows and conferences as required.

Education and Experience

    • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in physical sciences or engineering.  A graduate degree is preferred.
    • 5-10 years pharmaceutical drug product development experience. Preference is given to candidates that have at least 2 years working in a client-facing capacity. 
    • Experience in a Sales/Business Development role is preferred, but not required.  A technical background with a desire to move into commercial role is acceptable. 
    • Track record of technical leadership, including technical conference and client presentations.  

Travel Requirements

    • Approximately 25% travel required, and at times > 50% may be required.  Travel will be domestic, with potential for international travel.

Physical Requirements

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  
    • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at a time.
