Role
The Sr. Commissioning Engineer will own and implement the Serverfarm commissioning strategy in the execution of L4-L5 commissioning activities they are leading. They will drive quality by recommending and enforcing standards for testing the functional performance critical infrastructure systems, helping DEV teams to validate new equipment and suppliers, ensuring QA and QC of documentation, and identifying training requirements for new equipment and updated sequence of operations (SOO) for operations. This role is pivotal in enhancing ServerFarm’s competitive edge through delivery of cutting-edge technology solutions that are aligned for Operations and business requirements and future growth.
Key Accountabilities
- Leads projects within the commissioning program to ensure evidence of performance and compliance as required by internal processes and customer requirements. Ensures quality of systems performance and workmanship by collaborating on and enforcing internal and external stakeholders’ and vendors’ adherence to rigorous, yet efficient testing standards, and ensures timely entry of complete and accurate documentation in the commissioning tool.
- Ability to translate customer and operational requirements into technical details that support business realities around cost, quality, timing, scalability and sustainability for Serverfarm’s data center portfolio.
- Ability to maintain ownership and focus in a fast-paced work environment while effectively prioritizing work.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and delivering high-quality and timely business outcomes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and internal and external stakeholders, vendors and customers.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or closely aligned engineering discipline, or commensurate industry experience or military experience in lieu of degree may be acceptable.
- 7+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems.
Preferred Skills
- Chartered or Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience of working with large global data center providers in multiple regions globally.
- Knowledge of local building codes and safety regulations in multiple jurisdictions.
- Knowledge of critical data center equipment (Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Switchgear,Transformers, Power Feeders, Chillers, Plumbing, Fire Detection/Suppression, Air Handling Units, Computer Room Air Handling/Conditioning Units, Chillers, UPS, CRAH, CRAC…).
- Strong record of mentoring and growing teams.
- Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
Travel Requirements
- Regular travel (50% - 45% domestic/5% international) to data center locations to support Commissioning activities (L3-L5).
- Vendor Factory visits and qualification (10%).
- Occasional travel (5%) to industry conferences to maintain key partner and customer relationships.
$160,000 - $180,000 a year
The listed salary range for this position is an estimate based on the competitive job market. Final compensation will be based on your own individual skills, experience, and location.
