Hardware Engineering Technician

Shaper is developing a revolutionary line of computer-augmented power tools, starting with a handheld CNC router called Origin. We’re looking for an experienced Hardware Engineering Technician to help build, test and improve our products. You’ll develop a deep understanding of our mechanical and electrical systems. The ability to learn quickly and work cooperatively is a must. You will be responsible for troubleshooting, test and repair Shaper products and will work closely with the engineering team to communicate, document and highlight issues.

The Job

    • Assemble, repair and document issues with customer returned devices
    • Follow applicable work instructions to perform critical repair and testing processes
    • Assemble, disassemble, test and maintain Shaper’s fleet of internal devices and prototypes
    • Provide detailed descriptions of the operations performed and finding conclusions through the troubleshooting, repair, and testing processes
    • Execute hardware device testing on current production and prototype devices
    • Maintain, review, and update process documentation on a regular basis
    • Assist in creating work procedures and process flows as required
    • Organize and optimize current lab supplies, spare parts and equipment
    • Receive, pack and ship material and prototypes to and from our partners


    • AS degree or equivalent with more than 3 years of hands-on work experience as hardware technician in an engineering lab or production environment
    • Hands-on experience with diagnosing, repair and refurbishment of electrical and mechanical assemblies in consumer electronics or robotics
    • Familiarity with Google Drive tools such as Spreadsheets and Documents
    • Follows all safety requirements and keeps work area clean and orderly
    • Mechanically inclined and experience using common hand and power tools
    • A fast learner with solid understanding of electronics and mechanical components
    • Excellent organizational skills, attention-to-detail, and multitasking capability
    • Outstanding problem-solving skills with good technical knowledge of consumer electronics
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Must work well in a fast-paced environment with dynamic requirements and priorities.
