As the Director of Mechanical Engineering, you will be at the helm of our mechanical engineering department, driving the development and deployment of advanced mechanical structures and systems for Shield AI’s portfolio of air vehicles. You will lead the scaling and growth of the mechanical engineering team. You will oversee the development of design processes, design standards and analysis methodologies.

What you'll do:

    • Leadership & Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of mechanical engineers. Foster a culture of speed, excellence and quality.
    • Design Oversight: Oversee the design, development, and testing of mechanical systems for autonomous unmanned aircraft. Ensure designs meet performance, safety, and reliability standards. Develop design and release to manufacturing processes that simultaneously minimize time-to-market and ensure quality.
    • Analysis Capability Development: Develop internal analysis capabilities and deploy processes for integration into the design process.
    • Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee rigorous testing and validation processes to ensure high-quality and reliable mechanical systems.
    • Vendor & Supplier Management: Manage relationships with external vendors and suppliers during development. Ensure quality and performance standards are met for outsourced components and systems.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Master’s degree or higher preferred.
    • Experience: 15+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience in the aerospace or unmanned aircraft industry is highly desirable.
    • Leadership Abilities: Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
    • A demonstrated record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others. 
    • Demonstrated track record of assuming ownership over development processes and features and delivering outstanding outcomes.
    • Proven track record of successfully shipping products, showcasing the ability to navigate through development cycles, overcome obstacles, and deliver high-quality solutions to meet project deadlines and exceed client expectations in a fast-paced environment
