As Shippo’s Trust & Safety lead, you will take full ownership of protecting our ecosystem from fraud and abuse. You will lead the charge in identifying patterns of bad actors, designing proactive measures to mitigate risks, and creating scalable processes to safeguard our customers, partners, and company. 
You will leverage your technical expertise, data-driven approach, and investigative mindset to build and execute strategies that tackle complex fraud issues. You will problem-solve and partner across the organization, collaborating with teams like Product, Engineering, and Operations to ensure our defenses and processes stay ahead of emerging threats. Your ability to analyze data, distill insights, and implement impactful solutions will be critical to your success.
You are skilled at navigating ambiguity, setting priorities, and maintaining focus in a fast-paced environment. You combine tactical execution with building our fraud strategy and take pride in owning your work from start to finish.

What Success Looks Like in This Role: 
- Within 90 days, you are the recognized fraud SME across Shippo.
- You’ve taken ownership of at least one high-impact fraud issue from identification through resolution.
- Fraud KPIs are defined, tracked, and shared transparently.
- Product/Engineering see you as a proactive partner, not a passive stakeholder.
- You’ve made timely decisions—even in uncertainty—that reduced risk or loss.

Shipping & Handling Responsibilities:

    • Product & Operational Immersion - Within your first 90 days, build a working knowledge of Shippo’s entire fraud landscape, product flows, carrier policies, internal tools, and historical patterns. You use these to guide proactive prevention strategies.
    • Fraud Detection & Investigation - Personally investigate and resolve high-impact fraud cases, from data analysis to execution of countermeasures.Identify fraud patterns, emerging threats, and operational gaps—proactively closing them before they scale.
    • Proactive Decision-Making - Make and own fraud-related decisions, even with incomplete information; clearly communicate trade-offs and rationale to stakeholders.Develop mitigation plans, escalate when needed, and follow through to resolution.
    • Cross-Functional Leadership - Be the go-to fraud subject matter expert for Product and Engineering—providing requirements, advocating for roadmap features, and ensuring balance between fraud prevention and revenue goals.Influence partners across the company with clear, actionable recommendations backed by data.
    • Measurement & Reporting - Define fraud KPIs (e.g., loss rate, false-positive rate, time-to-resolution) and report progress regularly.Track impact of prevention measures, iterating quickly on what works and what doesn’t.
    • Tooling & Process - Manage and optimize fraud detection tools (e.g., Sift, Stripe RADAR, SQL, Looker) and ensure they are tuned for Shippo’s needs. Build scalable workflows and escalation protocols that allow the team to move fast when incidents arise.

Do you tick the boxes?

    • 5+ years in fraud prevention, trust & safety, or risk management, ideally in marketplaces, payment platforms, or logistics/shipping.
    • Proven ability to quickly gain deep product and operational expertise in a complex domain.
    • Track record of balancing strategic vision with tactical execution—not afraid to roll up your sleeves.
    • Skilled in fraud tooling and analytics (Sift, Stripe RADAR, SQL, Looker, or similar).
    • Comfortable making and owning decisions in ambiguous or high-risk situations.
    • Experience influencing product and engineering roadmaps to integrate fraud prevention.
    • Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Entrepreneurial mindset—proactive, resourceful, and action-oriented.

$149,000 - $202,000 a year
We believe compensation is a custom experience and are commited to fair and equitable compensation practices. The standard base pay range for this role is min is $149k to a max $202k annual salary. We tend to anchor our pay in the middle of this range ($175k). Since we are focused on hiring Shippos Everywhere, we have 2 US pay ranges, a standard compensation range for the majority of the US and a standard +1 compensation range for those who live in areas where the cost of labor is higher, such as NYC and California.
