Localization Manager

Remote (US Timezones) /
Support Specialist /
Signal is hiring a localization manager to make Signal Messenger clear and welcoming to people in every country and in every language. We’re looking for a self starter who deeply understands that an app can’t just work well for an English speaking audience; it must “speak” fluently to all users. This is especially important for Signal where the user base has grown to be predominantly outside the US.

Your objective is to make Signal feel like it fits right along with all the other apps on someone’s phone, regardless of the language they speak or the country in which they live. You will be responsible for defining the end-to-end localization process and delivering high quality translations of Signal into ever more languages over time.

    • Define, implement and own the end-to-end localization process for the Signal organization, app and user-facing content, leveraging previous expertise with consumer-oriented apps to build a native and cohesive voice for the product across various languages
    • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in identifying, sourcing and implementing new locales based on Signal’s mission and goals
    • Manage the l10n process on an ongoing basis as Signal adds features and content
    • Share best practices internally with our development team
    • Interface and collaborate with a community of volunteer translators
    • Passionate advocate for delivering the best user experience globally. This is critical to partnering well with internal teams and external partners.

Minimum Qualifications

    • 5+ years of localization experience, managing internal and external translators while leading medium to large-scale projects to serve a global user base
    • Experience with external localization vendors, translation systems, the full localization life cycle and industry best practices
    • Experience managing online communities
    • Experience with a consumer app is a plus
    • Proficiency in one or more of Arabic, French, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi, or Indonesian is a plus
    • Ability to work within tight deadlines and budgetary constraints
    • Organized self-starter that thrives in a fast-paced, multi-time-zone environment

    • You can work anywhere within US timezones. Whether it’s your favorite coffee shop or your living room, Signal gives you the flexibility to work wherever you will be most effective. We fly somewhere new once a quarter so that everyone can meet up in person.
    • Excellent healthcare, vision, and dental with all premiums covered.
    • Our 401(k) plan matches your contributions (without any vesting period) up to the employee federal maximum of $19,500.
    • We're stable, well-funded, and capable of focusing on what is best for users without distractions.
    • Feel good about what you do. We believe in solving real problems, working with integrity, and sharing that work (and code) with everyone.
Signal Messenger is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran or disability status.
