Silverback Strategies is a performance marketing agency built to help marketers grow and capitalize on change. Ad Age, Inc Magazine, The Washington Post, The Washingtonian, and The Washington Business Journal have recognized Silverback as one of the best places to work.
We hire the best and help them get better. Silverbackers are supported, challenged and inspired by their peers. Regardless of title or tenure, every Silverbacker plays a role in helping our agency get better. This is a place where you can make a difference.
Today, Silverback is looking to hire a new Senior Content Lead to serve as our SEO department’s resident content strategy expert, leading the development and execution of high-impact content strategies that integrate seamlessly with SEO best practices and client business goals.
As an innovator and leader within the department, you’ll shape content direction across a portfolio of clients, act as a trusted advisor in client conversations, and mentor team members. You’ll play a key role in ensuring all content initiatives are driven by data, insights, and long-term growth objectives — you will not only spearhead clients’ initial content strategies, but you’ll also continuously optimize strategies through iterative improvements based on performance data & measurement.
This self-motivated Lead role will also play the driving role in optimizing existing content processes and up-leveling our overall content product. You’ll use AI tools to unlock innovations, find new efficiencies, and allow our team to produce higher-quality work with shorter turnaround times and bigger impacts to our clients' business goals.
The Senior Content Lead is expected to collaborate closely with Silverback’s team of all-star SEO Account Managers to align content with clients’ broader marketing strategies & business goals. You’ll report directly to Silverback’s Director of SEO, and will take full ownership of the continued evolution of Silverback’s content products & processes.
Here’s what we expect from our Senior Content Lead:
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead the development of content strategies that go beyond keywords and checklists. You’ll help clients create content that earns attention, supports business outcomes, and adapts to how people actually discover information today.
- Explore how AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity can supercharge research, planning, and analysis, then put those learnings into practice in ways that make our work sharper, not shallower.
- Use performance data to ask smarter questions: What’s working? What’s falling flat? What’s worth testing next? You’ll help shape a culture of curiosity and iteration.
- Translate insights into clear, actionable briefs that guide copywriters and SEO teammates. Balance structure and creativity while staying rooted in real search behavior.
- Keep an eye on the future of search — whether it’s algorithm changes, new SERP features, or how people use generative tools to find what they need — and help the team (and our clients) stay one step ahead.
- Serve as the client-facing team expert on content, and leading content focused discussions and presentations for clients.
- Mentor junior team members and the overall SEO team/department in content strategy and execution. Provide guidance and training to help elevate the team’s overall strategic thinking based on SEO analyses and business needs.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- You’ve led content strategy at an agency, in-house, or both, and you know how to navigate complex client needs without losing sight of the bigger picture.
- You’ve used AI tools in real-world ways: to audit content, uncover gaps, cluster ideas, or get to smarter strategy faster.
- You’re not chasing hype, but you’re not ignoring the shift either. You understand the connection between content, SEO, UX, and conversions, and you know how to advocate for thoughtful content decisions with clients and teams alike.
- You have proven experience in leading content strategy for multiple clients or teams, ideally in an agency environment. Previous experience with project management tools (especially Asana!) is a plus.
- You’re confident using tools like GA4 and Semrush, but even more confident explaining what the data means and what to do with it next.
- You ask great questions, think critically, and enjoy figuring things out. You’re not looking to repeat what worked last year, but are instead excited about what’s changing next.
- You have a deep understanding of SEO principles and their connection to content strategy, user experience, and conversion optimization.
- You can present strategies, performance results, and recommendations to clients in a persuasive & confidence-building manner.
- You’ve previously worked with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, HubSpot, or similar platforms, and are an expert in content publishing workflows.
