As president, you'll guide a newly acquired business through its transition to employee ownership, steering it toward sustainable growth with support from industry experts and a strong peer network.
What is CommonShares?
CommonShares is a succession platform that buys established small businesses at fair value from retiring owners, identifies and supports ambitious new presidents, and immediately grants a portion of the business to the employees—making them owners.
We do this because we believe employee ownership improves business performance, addresses wealth inequality, and ensures these businesses continue operating in their communities—never needing to be sold again.

The President Role
Apply your leadership skills and entrepreneurial drive to:
- Serve as the president of an employee-owned small business.
- Establish the business's value creation plan.
- Be responsible for all strategy, operations, and P&L management.
- Lead a team of experienced existing employees.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team to steward and grow your business.
- Assess the business and identify and execute opportunities for growth and improvement
- Manage resources to achieve operational and financial goals that you set and measure with CommonShares.
- Develop relationships with key customers, vendors, and partners.
- Manage hiring, firing, promotion, and performance management of your team.
- Develop an owner culture and work with CommonShares to transition the business to majority employee ownership.
- Roll up your sleeves and do what it takes to make your staff and your business successful. A small business requires a bit of everything.
- Commit to continuous self-improvement and participate in ongoing CommonShares President trainings and our President community.
Your Experience

- Strong general business and financial acumen

- Ability to set and achieve financial and operational goals
- Hands-on business operating experience preferred
