We need an Underwriting Consultant to help build out the growing Commercial Team.

As a pivotal member of the Commercial Team, you will be responsible for portfolio management of the MGA book of business.  This position will have wide ranging responsibilities, including maintaining underwriting guidelines, line profitability results, referral management and product development.  You will work closely with the MGA, Commercial and Insurance Product teams on a day to day basis.  Additionally, you will serve as the primary point of contact for the relevant capacity providers.  This is a highly technical and market facing position, which requires experience with General Liability and BOP lines of business. Additionally, you will work alongside the Customer Team, the Marketing Team, Product Management teams and the UK functional teams as needed.

As an Underwriting Consultant, you will:

    • Manage of the Underwriting guidelines, appetite and authority of the product line
    • Serve as the MGA product SME for overall product related guidance and completes topical reviews as needed
    • Act as the point of contact with all MGA capacity providers
    • Actively monitor the flow, health and profitability of the book of business, including from a new business, renewal, rate, geographic and product lens
    • Serve as the day-to-day Underwriter of the product, monitoring technical referrals and related letters of authority
    • Evaluate and communicate key underwriting/marketplace concepts to team and management staff
    • Manage and achieve satisfactory quality audit results
    • Manage complex multi-functional MGA/Commercial team projects, often including managing / influencing the work of others
    • Lead the product development and market regulatory process of new/updated products.  This includes coordination and developing a cross functional project plan for the construction of product form and rate rules pages

What we are looking for:

    • Bachelor's degree with over 8 years or more relevant work experience
    • Prior experience working for a Property and Casualty (P&C) carrier a must
    • Insurance designation(s) and/or insurance education are preferred (CPCU, AU, ARM, AAI, and/or MBA/MA degree)
    • Experience working with US commercial P&C products in an underwriting capacity
    • Advanced knowledge of product offerings, insurance lifecycle processes, underwriting guidelines and pricing systems
    • Advanced understanding of insurance workflows and concepts, including limits, coverages, pricing models, ISO and form/rate rules
    • Excellent communication, analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills. 
    • Experience with project management is preferred
    • You are passionate about the customer and the customers’ user experience
