The Corporate Controller is a key financial leader and a close partner to the President, responsible for the oversight of the Company’s accounting and financial reporting functions.  The Corporate Controller establishes accounting efficiencies across the organization and delivers consistent, accurate financial information, increasing the profile and credibility of the accounting function as a true business partner across all areas of the business. The Corporate Controller is a forward looking, proactive leader with experience in construction.

Core Responsibilities:
· Participate, as a member of the executive group, in the strategic planning process and the formulation of company policy.
· Oversee and deliver on various accounting functions, such as payroll, collections, account payable, billings, account receivables, cash management, project accounting and maintaining financial records. 
· Create and maintain a documented system of accounting policies, procedures, workflow, and internal controls.
· Effectively communicate with employees and maintain a positive working relationship when addressing problems and creating solutions.
· Learn and implement enterprise level accounting and project management software platforms, including use of Procore for project management, integration with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (“Timberline”), Sage Paperless for AP processing, ADP for payroll processing, Concur for expense reporting, and others.
· Identify and implement process improvement solutions to enhance accounting policies, procedures, workflow, and internal controls so they remain aligned with corporate accounting policies and appropriate for company growth projections.
· Manage and lead the accounting teams including all project accounting functions, ensuring accurate profit projections, monitoring job billing, costs, and collections. Coordinate both groups to ensure timely resolution of all issues.
· Maintain cash flow and working capital for the business by effectively managing accounts receivable and payable processes.
 
Accounting Department Management Responsibilities:
· Create and maintain a documented system of accounting policies, procedures, workflow, and internal controls. 
· Meet with the operations team and accounting team to monitor job billing, costs, and collections, escalating any issues to senior project managers, vice presidents, and other members of the operations team as appropriate.  Lead the meeting with operations team as needed.
· Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and that accounts receivable are collected promptly. Coordinate with management and accounting to secure prompt payment from owners. Pursue collections as required.
 
Reporting Responsibilities:
· Work with operations to generate and reconcile a Work in Process (“WIP”) report each month. Work with operations to ensure accurate revenue recognition and profit projections, including total contract value, total estimate value, job costs and billings to date, revenue/profit recognition. Post WIP entry.
· Facilitate monthly WIP review process including both operations and accounting departments.
· Prepare timely monthly financial statements in accordance with communicated deadlines and present to executive team.
· Manage outsourced functions as applicable.
· Participate in the development of short and long-term company financial profit and growth objectives.
· Provide counsel when considering financial impact of major business decisions to the company.
· Coordinate and direct the preparation of the operating plan and financial budget covering current and projected revenue, direct and overhead expenses, profits, and return on investment together with supporting analysis.
· Analyze, consolidate, and direct all job cost accounting practices and ensure that project teams are trained and understand job cost accounting.
· Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
· Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics as needed.
 
Staff Management Responsibilities:
· Supervise, development, lead and motivate the accounting team.
· Create a team environment that encourages accounting team members to work collaboratively, with the operations team as well and to meet the accounting department and company goals.
· Hire, develop, motivate, and hold all direct reports accountable to ensure effective and efficient accounting operations.
· Develop, train and provide appropriate educational programs and resources to the accounting team to ensure that a high level of competency is developed and maintained.
· Conduct performance reviews and recommend compensation and needed adjustments for accounting staff.
· Provide direction, advice, and assistance to accounting staff.

Desired Traits

    • Minimum of 7 years accounting experience in a construction company with a minimum of 3 years as either a controller or managing the project accounting function.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or MBA, or equivalent business experience.
    • Proven management and supervisory experience.
    • Experience with Sage accounting software or similar construction accounting applications is a plus.
    • Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.
    • Strong verbal and written communication, problem-solving and leadership skills.
    • Extremely organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Positively communicate with all departments throughout the organization.
    • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel.

The starting base pay for this position has a salary range of $133,000.00 to $247,00.00.* The actual salary offer will be carefully considered based on a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. The range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is also eligible for health, disability, life, dental, vision along with retirement and profit sharing plans. *Please note that the full base pay range for incumbent employees in this position can be expected to fall between $133,000 and $247,000.  New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay overtime based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
