Desktop Support Technician

Slate is looking for a part-time desktop support specialist to patiently guide Slate staff in resolving the various IT problems that come up in their work. Candidates should have a background in supporting Macs, with some knowledge of Windows preferred. The primary functions will include troubleshooting end-user issues for a majority of remote users (as well as in-office users) and taking detailed notes when responding to tickets. The ideal candidate is flexible and a self-directed learner that uses their resources to solve any issues they will encounter. This role will be based out of our Brooklyn, New York, offices once Slate returns from remote work.

Key Responsibilities

    • Prioritizing and responding to tickets in a professional and timely manner.
    • Basic troubleshooting of MacOS issues and peripherals in both a remote and in-office capacity.
    • Adding and removing new and departing staff from various systems and platforms.
    • Basic administration of Slack, G Suite, and cloud-based platforms.
    • Documenting troubleshooting steps for later reference.

Requirements

    • 1–2 years’ experience directly supporting Macintosh OS and Apple hardware (laptops, iMacs, iOS devices, etc.)
    • Candidates should be comfortable talking directly with individual staff in person, over email, and using video teleconferencing platforms to troubleshoot remote user issues for the majority of a given day
    • Basic networking skills (patching in and troubleshooting end-user Ethernet connections, wireless access points, VPNs, etc.)
    • Ability to support miscellaneous office equipment such as printers, A/V systems, softphones
    • A friendly and empathetic approach to troubleshooting as well as a certain level of organization and self-direction

    • Bonus Qualifications
    • Experience with Meraki cloud-based systems as well as endpoint management (DEP, MDM, etc.)
    • Windows knowledge and the ability to manage virtual machines
    • A sense of humor (lol)
