Summary

As the Director of Technology Finance Operations, you will lead the process of developing the annual budget for the engineering organization. You will serve as the primary contact for financial performance for the technology organization at Smarsh. You will develop, organizationally align, distribute, and lead discussions and processes around the execution of our budget, forecasting, and enablement of the strategy outlined by the Technology executives. You will be responsible for strategic financial insights, budget compliance, monthly forecasting, and fostering cross-functional relationships to support the company's financial goals. This position directly reports to the VP of Technology Strategy.
Stakeholders for this role will be spread across US, UK, and India meaning that this role is global and will require that flexibility and occasional international travel.

How will you contribute?

    • Allocate budgets, based on the strategy of the engineering organization, to the appropriate engineering functions. You will ensure that the budget is loaded into Smarsh’s financial tools and perform monthly reporting of our actuals against the budget.
    • Manage the collection, reviewing of, and gathering approval for monthly forecast updates from all engineering budget owners.
    • Identify variances, trends, and anomalies and track down answers or acceptance to these items.
    • Represent the Technology budget at QBRs.
    • Lead special projects and their impact to the technology budget (acquisitions, mid-year pivots in strategy, etc.).
    • Lead discovery projects to understand budget and revenue implications of platform consolidations, acquisition integrations, and technology transformations.
    • Partner with Procurement to support vendor negotiations and cost management for software, hosting, and hardware.
    • Manage the allocation process with finance/account to ensure proper R&D/COGS alignment and product P&L burden.
    • Key stakeholders will include all engineering leaders, technical program managers, HR (headcount planning, attrition, merit, etc.), accounting (proper account treatment of spend), and procurement(negotiations of renewal or new software). 
    • Support cost optimization projects through profitability analysis and efficiency recommendations.

What will you bring?

    • Bachelor’s degree. MBA, CPA, or Masters preferred.
    • 10+ years of financial analysis experience; preferably in SAAS or Professional Services
    • Prior experience working with a software technology organization preferred.
    • Prior experience with Data Center and Public cloud accounting treatments
    • Experience with Workday Adaptive Planning, Salesforce, or NetSuite preferred.
    • Can apply advanced knowledge and experience to developing new methods, programs, and procedures, and includes a comprehensive understanding of the practical issues of at least one central functional area where the knowledge is applied.
    • Skilled in end-to-end people management.
    • Can drive the application of principles, theories, and concepts and determines the best course of action.
    • Able to resolve complex problems of line of business-wide operations.
    • Skilled in establishing functional procedures and policy.
    • Can identify efficiency improvement activities and work to implement streamlining/efficiency changes.
    • Can make tactical decisions that will impact the line of business.
    • Able to present complex information and findings to large teams.
$145,000 - $165,000 a year

The above salary range represents Smarsh's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting. 

Any applicable bonus programs will be discussed during the recruiting process. 

The salary for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, location, specialty and training. Local cost of living assessments are done for each new hire at the time of offer.
