Smarsh is looking for a Technology Manager to lead our Cloud FinOps function. This function’s objective is to first create visibility of costs at an application level, publish cost models for all cloud applications, foster ownership-of-cost culture within the application teams, and build processes that will enable application teams to publish their own cost models, estimate/adjust cost models based on new development work, and create roadmaps to reduce their application costs. As our Cloud FinOps Manager, you’ll run a small team and will work on a wide range of projects.

How will you contribute?

    • Design, build, and establish the framework for application cost models for the whole organization.
    • Project manage the adoption of the above framework throughout all product teams with a goal of 100% of cloud applications having a published cost model.
    • Build requirements for the Insights Product team to enable the correct telemetry solutions within the platform to enable the creation of granular cost models, usage reports, and trend identification.
    • Contribute requirements for the Insights Product team to create dashboards for each product team to have near real-time visibility and alerting into their application’s cost.
    • Create a methodology, within the application cost model, for product teams to take accountability for the applications their application consumes (i.e. the business functional applications consume the platform engineering product team’s applications).
    • Design, build, and own a dashboard for aggregate level data to be shown in near real-time such as a single customer’s monthly costs, a geographic region’s unit economics, or Smarsh-wide unit economics.
    • Design and own a chargeback/show back process for Smarsh to properly allocate cloud costs to the correct product or organizational P&L.
    • Control, forecast, and report on a multi-million-dollar operating Cloud expense.
    • Run the FinOps team on a day-to-day basis. From escalation to prioritization to people management and development, you'll be running the team.
    • Track progress for both executive and engineer audiences, work with leaders to define appropriate KPIs.
    • Responsible for Savings Plans, Committed Use Discounts, and RI purchasing, tracking, and optimization.
    • Develop a budgeting and forecast modules for Cloud spend to be used Smarsh-wide.
    • Embed best practices, FinOps culture and, change throughout the organization, becoming the ultimate force multiplier.

What will you bring?

    • Experience creating application cost models for SaaS/usage-based applications.
    • Experience with AWS, Solutions Architect Associate certification preferred.
    • Experience working in a highly technical platform engineering environment.
    • Good understanding of product development, devops and ops/infrastructure environments.
    • Experience with analytical tools such as PowerBI, Quicksight, Excel, etc.
    • Analytical approach; be able to get into the data yourself as well as use it to influence leadership and engineers.
    • Experience with application observability/metering tools e.g. Prometheus, DataDog, HoneyComb, etc.
    • Experience building dashboards for both engineers and other business functions.
    • Department level planning: owning planning of projects, breaking them down into deliverable chunks, identifying and managing dependencies.
    • People Management; leading a team, supporting career development.

$160,000 - $180,000 a year
The salary for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, location, specialty, and training. Local cost of living assessments are done for each new hire at the time of offer.
