Solestial, Inc. is the solar energy company for space. Solestial’s core technology is a breakthrough ultra-thin silicon solar cell that can self-cure radiation damage at normal operating temperatures in space, packaged in a flexible, lightweight panel designed to achieve minimum degradation for up to 10 years in LEO. Solestial panels can be mass-produced using automated machines resulting in costs 90% lower than incumbent technologies, with virtually unlimited manufacturing capacity. The Role:
As the Product Manager you will own the entire solar panel design and release processes for the growing portfolio of Solestial customers. In addition, you will work closely with production, qualification, business development and marketing teams as well as executive leadership to create product roadmaps, develop new panel features, and ensure timely delivery to customers, while meeting specified performance parameters. Specific responsibilities to include:
- Design solar panels to the customers' requirements (cell dimensions, cells layout, cell-to-cell interconnectors, string interconnectors, external connectors, bypass diodes, substrate etc.) and produce CAD drawings as well as materials list to feed production.
- Work in close collaboration with the manufacturers of solar array deployment systems to ensure compatibility of the panels with the specific deployment requirements.
- Oversee structural and thermal analysis of solar panels.
- Coordinate manufacturing plans and projections with the production team, prioritize external and internal commits and populate production queue.
- Manage product packaging, shipping and tracking.
- Assist business development team with RFI and RFP responses.
- Provide engineering support to the business development and marketing teams.
- Organize and host customers site visits.
- Research competing PV technologies, understand PV industry trends, both space and terrestrial, participate in PV conferences and exhibitions.
- Work in Tempe, AZ at Solestial's production site in close collaboration with the technical team.
Your Background:
- Master's or PhD degree in engineering or physical science fields.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in PV industry (either terrestrial or space).
- Understanding of PV technology and manufacturing (either crystalline silicon, III-V or thin film).
- Familiarity with solar cell and panel stress testing procedures.
- Experience using AutoCAD or similar design software.
- Process-oriented, flexible with change, comfortable working in less-structured startup environment, offering recommendations for improvement.
