About the Role

The Head of Teaching & Learning will serve as the pedagogical leader of SOLFL, responsible for guiding the design and implementation of its teaching and learning practices. This individual will ensure the delivery of a cohesive and dynamic educational experience that aligns with SOLFL's mission and values, emphasizing the interconnectedness of academic rigor, spiritual exploration, and connection to the world and each other.

Key Responsibilities

    • Pedagogical Leadership: Develop and implement a cohesive pedagogical design for SOLFL, drawing inspiration from Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, Bank Street, inquiry-based learning, and nature education models. Ensure that the educational practices reflect and promote SOLFL’s core values and mission. Regularly review and refine teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners and align with cutting-edge research in education.
    • Teacher Coaching & Support: Recruiting and hiring of SOLFL educatorsSupervise and coach faculty, providing ongoing support, feedback, and resources to help them excel in their roles. Conduct regular observations and evaluations, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth. Guide teachers in integrating innovative and student-centered methodologies into their practice.
    • Professional Development: Design and lead professional development programs tailored to the unique SOLFL educational model. Facilitate workshops, seminars, and retreats to inspire and equip teachers with tools for effective and meaningful instruction. Promote collaborative learning among faculty, encouraging shared best practices and innovative approaches.
    • Curriculum Design & Oversight: Work closely with, and as part of, the curriculum team to develop and implement interdisciplinary, integrated, spiraled, and inquiry-based curricula that emphasize creativity, critical thinking, and spiritual growth. Integrate nature education, arts, and experiential learning into the curriculum to create a well-rounded and inspiring learning experience. Evaluate and refine curriculum to ensure alignment with SOLFL’s vision and educational goals.
    • Vision Alignment: Act as a steward of SOLFL’s mission, modeling and promoting its core values in all aspects of the school community. Work closely with school leadership to ensure that the teaching and learning practices reflect the organization’s long-term vision and goals.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Deep expertise in progressive education methods, including Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, Bank Street, inquiry-based learning, and nature education.
    • Proven experience in educational leadership and teacher coaching.
