We are seeking a highly skilled and consultative BI Developer / Tableau Specialist to join our team on a contract basis. A senior specialist for consultative insight generation and content creation.
You'll play a crucial role in building new advertising business from the ground up, with a focus on data ingestion, analysis, and reporting. This is a unique opportunity to own projects from end-to-end, work with novel data sources, and provide strategic thought leadership in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Data Analysis & Quality Assurance: Perform in-depth analysis on new advertising and other novel datasets to identify trends, inconsistencies, and data quality issues. You'll be the first line of defense, proactively identifying and communicating issues like data duplicates or illogical user journeys.
- Data Mart Design & Utilization: Work with our data engineering team to ensure data marts in Snowflake are optimized for reporting. You will leverage a well-constructed data foundation to build reports without relying on complex, custom SQL within Tableau.
- Reporting & Dashboard Development: Design, build, and maintain dynamic and intuitive dashboards in Tableau. You'll create a single source of truth for advertising performance, enabling our business partners to make data-driven decisions.
- Insights & Content Generation: Translate complex data into compelling stories and insights for our advertising, partnerships, marketing, and PR teams. This will involve running ad-hoc analyses and even creating new data mappings (e.g., mapping private label brands to retailers) to answer key business questions.
- Business Partnership & Requirements Gathering: Act as a key business advisor, translating high-level business goals into concrete reporting requirements. You'll work closely with stakeholders who have a broad vision but need guidance on how to achieve it with our current data.
Mandatory requirements:
- Extensive experience as a BI Developer or Tableau Specialist, with a strong portfolio of dashboard development.
- Expert-level proficiency with Tableau, including a deep understanding of its relationship system and best practices for performance.
- Strong SQL skills for data exploration and validation.
- Proven ability to perform data analysis, quality assurance, and provide consultative insights.
- Demonstrated experience in translating business needs into technical requirements.
Optional requirements:
- Familiarity with the ad tech ecosystem and experience analyzing advertising data from sources like Google Ad Manager.
- Previous experience working in an environment with novel, unstructured, or ambiguous data.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead conversations and guide stakeholders.
Tech stack:
- Snowflake for data warehousing.
- Tableau for BI and reporting.
- Google Ad Manager integration is underway; experience with this tool is a plus.
- Existing data lake architecture includes raw, structured, and curated zones.
- Preference for data marts that plug into Tableau's relationship system — not heavily SQL-based dashboards.
