Role Summary
As a Cloud FinOps Architect you are responsible for collecting and analyzing financial information related to the organization’s cloud expenses. You would report on cost trends and track anomalies in usage to a granular level and help in allocating cost components to business units and product lines. You would be able to review the cost data to improve the accuracy of budgets and forecasts for different products and help in creating financial models for engineering project and Go-To-Market decisions. You will work as part of a team to implement and maintain FinOps practices and methodologies, with a focus on analyzing cloud usage and spending data to identify areas for cost optimization.
 
The ideal candidate would have a strong understanding of FinOps data collection pipelines and AWS ecosystem.

What You Will Do

    • Collaborate with FinOps and Engineering to track and monitor cost optimization initiatives, ensuring key initiative assumptions are accurate, and applicable infrastructure efficiencies are incorporated into the forecast.
    • Monitor ongoing cloud expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities, such as unused or underutilized resources in AWS for all cloud hosted products.
    • Analyze cloud data to identify cost optimization and usage opportunities and create specific recommendations; review those recommendations with engineering and business stakeholders.
    • Monitor and report on cloud usage against budget and forecast, explore trends in cloud spend with a focus on root cause of cloud resource cost increase on daily/weekly/monthly trend
    • Create reports, dashboards and alerts to track spending and usage trends and the potential impact of cost optimizations. Present regular updates to senior leadership.
    • Closely partner with Engineering teams to understand Cloud business processes and cost drivers.
    • Where needed, assist in implementing, maintaining and governing the FinOps with a focus on data pipelines optimization and accuracy.
    • Work with the technical teams to ensure proper tagging and allocation of cloud resources for accurate cost tracking and reporting). Build and optimize tagging framework, rollout to the full cloud stack and ensure compliance of tagging requirements

What You Will Bring

    • 5+ years in managing Cloud environments, budgets, forecasts and implementing financial controls.
    • Experience with FinOps including cloud cost and financial model forecasting and cloud cost optimization strategies.
    • Understanding software development in a DevOps culture and ability to plan and deliver on FinOps short- and long-term roadmap.
    • Deep understanding of AWS capabilities with focus on building, troubleshooting and optimizing AWS services.
    • Experience with AWS billing, cost management tools, and best practices
    • Experience working with relational/NoSQL databases.
    • Proficient with data structuring languages including CSV, JSON, and XML. Parquet also desirable.
    • Demonstrated experience in large data collection, analysis, and presentation
    • Ability to query, analyze and summarize data efficiently and accurately.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and deliver presentations to leaders.
    • Comprehension of common business financial practices ex: COGS, CapEx, OpEx
    • Understanding of ML tools like SageMaker, PyTorch, etc
    • Ability to mentor and lead junior FinOps engineers
In the United States, the base salary for this role ranges from $183,000 to $305,000. In addition to base salary, we offer additional compensation including bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s specific pay within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including job-related skills, training, location, experience, relevant education, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
