About Us
Sophos is a global leader and innovator of advanced security solutions for defeating cyberattacks. The company acquired Secureworks in February 2025, bringing together two pioneers that have redefined the cybersecurity industry with their innovative, native AI-optimized services, technologies and products. Sophos is now the largest pure-play Managed Detection and Response (MDR) provider, supporting more than 28,000 organizations. In addition to MDR and other services, Sophos’ complete portfolio includes industry-leading endpoint, network, email, and cloud security that interoperate and adapt to defend through the Sophos Central platform. Secureworks provides the innovative, market-leading Taegis XDR/MDR, identity threat detection and response (ITDR), next-gen SIEM capabilities, managed risk, and a comprehensive set of advisory services. Sophos sells all these solutions through reseller partners, Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) worldwide, defending more than 600,000 organizations worldwide from phishing, ransomware, data theft, other every day and state-sponsored cybercrimes. The solutions are powered by historical and real-time threat intelligence from Sophos X-Ops and the newly added Counter Threat Unit (CTU). Sophos is headquartered in Oxford, U.K. More information is available at www.sophos.com.
Role Summary
Opportunity to bootstrap a Threat Intelligence function at the heart of a highly capable security team. Designing and delivering a roadmap for Intelligence-Driven Operations to defend Sophos.
We seek a seasoned Threat Intelligence professional to join Sophos’ Internal Detection & Response team to set the direction for our intelligence capabilities. You will act as a linchpin, coordinating cross-functional alignment with our customer-facing intelligence teams and integrating our own unique viewpoints as the defenders of a Cybersecurity company to keep our company and products secure. You will have the engineering depth to bring that fused intelligence picture to bear on a problem space that demands scalability.
As part of an established security function, you will be one of the first to focus purely on the problem of operationalising our Threat Intelligence capabilities. This will include establishing a roadmap for the long-term development of our cross-functionally integrated Threat Intelligence capability, and managing resource (both direct and indirect) in the delivery of those new capabilities.
What You Will Do
- Partner with multiple Threat Intelligence teams across Sophos (including the Cyber Threat Unit, MDR Threat Research and SophosLabs) to build a consolidated threat picture of Sophos and its product deployments.
- Develop Threat Intelligence Requirements to focus our collection and analytical efforts on threats to Sophos.
- Drive Threat Hunting and Investigations to answer those Intelligence Requirements with a small team of Threat Researchers, leveraging Sophos’ consolidated intelligence.
- Support a modernised Detection Engineering program, leveraging Detection-as-Code to create effective observability of threats to Sophos.
- Derive actionable outputs to integrate with our internal security practices and tooling to defend Sophos.
- Design and deliver a Threat Intelligence roadmap for developing our Threat Intelligence capability over the coming years.
- Coach, mentor and support Threat Researchers.
What You Will Bring
- Deep expertise in threat intelligence, threat actor analysis and threat landscape modelling.
- Excellent stakeholder management; Able to coordinate cross-functional threat intelligence teams, tools, products and capabilities to create an impactful intelligence outcome.
- Good understanding of common threat intelligence frameworks and how to apply them to threat intelligence solutions (eg: Intelligence Lifecycle, Diamond Model, Kill Chain, Mitre ATT&CK, etc).
- Proven analytic skillset and an understanding of different analytic techniques (eg: analysis of competing hypotheses, frequency analysis, temporal analysis, etc).
- Practical experience of implementing threat intelligence integrations at scale, including good understanding of common intelligence data formats (eg: STIX) and threat intelligence platforms (eg: OpenCTI).
- Ability to draw up roadmaps, break a problem down in to component work and run projects to deliver against them.
- Some hands-on capability in coding/scripting to execute at scale (eg: python).
