Role Summary
Sophos is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Technical Trainer to develop, own, and drive training and enablement-focused projects and programs for the Sophos Managed Detection and Response (MDR) team. This individual will play a critical role in onboarding and training new hires during their first two weeks in Initial Training, ensuring they have the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to excel in a fast-paced cybersecurity environment.
 
This role requires someone who is not only technically proficient but also an engaging and inspirational leader. As a Technical Trainer, you will design and deliver training content, develop engaging curriculum, and work hands-on to build training cases that reflect real-world cybersecurity detections and threat actor activity. Your work will directly impact the success of our SOC team by preparing new hires for the rigors of the cyber threat analyst role. 

What you will do

    • Drive the development and execution of training on topics such as security operations policies, processes and procedures, threat identification/analysis, and incident response. 
    • Develop, refine, and enhance cybersecurity training curriculum with minimal guidance. 
    • Create curricula from multiple sources of information including operational processes, procedures and policies, engineering documentation, field service requirements, or software documentation. 
    • Create and manage training content within a Learning Management System (LMS), including video-based and live instructor-led courses. 
    • Reverse-engineer threat actor activity using real-world cybersecurity detections to build relevant and challenging training cases. 
    • Work with command-line interfaces and various security tools to build attack scripts for our hands-on training scenarios. 
    • Demonstrate grammatical precision in both written and verbal communication. 
    • Maintain a fun, engaging, and positive leadership style to foster a high-energy learning environment and alleviate imposter syndrome anxieties for our new hires. 
    • Collaborate with SMEs to ensure appropriateness and accuracy of curriculum content. 
    • Coordinate with various internal teams to ensure that course material reflects current product features. 
    • Instruct participants in both virtual classroom lectures and hands-on labs via remote/virtual training sessions. 
    • Ensure documentation is regularly updated to maintain applicability and accuracy of course material. 
    • Create technical adversarial attack simulations using lab resources with the goal of developing/growing analysts’ skillsets. 
    • Remain current on the latest research and trends in cybersecurity to maintain SME-level knowledge and insight. 
    • Evaluate effectiveness of training activities through assessment of course feedback and performance evaluations. 

What you will bring

    • 4+ years of experience within a cybersecurity environment;2+ years of experience developing content for technical training and/or within a formalized training role. A strong background in cybersecurity preferred; a computerscience background will also be considered. 
    • Hands-on experience using or teaching the use of security tools including SIEM, adversarial simulation, or forensics tools. 
    • Proven experience in teachingandcurriculum development with minimal supervision. 
    • Ability to engage and inspire learners with a leadership-driven training approach. 
    • Experience working with command-line tools and security technologies. 
    • Comfort in creating training materials, including videos and e-learning content. 
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both spoken and written English. 
    • High comfort level when speaking to large groups and senior leadership. 
    • Ability to translate complex concepts into simple and understandable modules. 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. 
    • Possession of technical certifications is a plus but not required. 
    • Proficiency in additional languages is a plus. 
    • Passion for continuous learning, problem-solving, and innovation in training methodologies. 
    • A highly motivated, self-starting attitude with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently. 
    • Thrives in a multitasking environment and can adjust priorities on-the-fly.
