Role Summary
The lab software engineer will help build and manage the lab environment used for testing Sophos hardware and software products. This individual will apply his/her skills in network and server administration to support the testing needs of the development teams and the broader organization. Along with technical skills, the position requires someone who can maintain careful documentation and keep the extensive lab inventory current.

What you will do

    • Installation and configuration of engineering lab infrastructure switches, wifi access points and firewalls
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot and identify network and server issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
    • Create and manage Virtual Machines on VMWare
    • Backups of key systems.
    • Lab infrastructure security checks.  
    • Support the engineering teams in performing product development and testing and day-to-day operations and maintenance.
    • Maintain and monitor health status of lab devices.
    • Upgrade and maintain lab devices as required
    • Responsible for capturing work activity in the Atlassian JIRA Issue Tracking system and plan effort accordingly using Agile scrum principles.

What you will bring

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Information technology or a related field
    • Minimum 4 years’ experience in an IT or Engineering Datacenter environment.
    • CCNA Certified Highly desired.
    • Knowledge of Layer 2 switches, Servers and other networking systems
    • Working experience of Linux and Windows Operating systems
    • Hands on experience with DNS, DHCP and Active directory servers
    • Create and manage Virtual Machines on VMWare
    • Good communication skills, written and verbal.
    • Good work organization and time management abilities.
    • Onsite availability is a must.
