We currently have a fantastic opportunity available for a Water Loss Metering Team Manager to join our team. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £34,000 - £38,000 per annum plus a range of excellent company benefits + rewards.

About the role:

As the Water Loss Metering Team Manager, you will manage the activities of Water Loss Asset and Metering Technicians across the SWW regions spanning Devon, Cornwall and Dorset.
 
You will provide regional expertise for the improvement and maintenance of company metering, flow technology and data collection across leakage and water balance gap reporting.  Proactively minimise data failures, towards >90% regulatory operability, and increase awareness of water supply system efficiency and water consumption components.
 
You will also assist with operational and reporting activities to help deliver company regulatory leakage performance.
 
The role is aligned to a progression scheme which supports the development and training of individuals to become fully competent, accountable Water Loss Metering Team Manager.

Day to day you’ll be…

    • Manage the team of Water Loss Asset and Metering Technicians and across SWW, and support their duties, development and training.
    • Install and maintain metering and telemetry across all reporting DMAs; including sub-metering, Waste Water Treatment Works and commercial customers, to ensure the accuracy of essential network information to improve and enhance operational leakage performance.
    • Install and maintain Service Reservoir metering and telemetry to ensure losses are monitored and minimised.
    • Install and maintain meters and telemetry across other key reporting components for company leakage and water balance gap performance (for example commercial customers and company WWTWs).
    • Ensure health and safety policies, standards and procedures are adhered to at all times.
    • Manage own schedule of work and co-ordinate where necessary with Water Supply Metering team to assist or gain assistance with complex metering jobs. Use own experience and knowledge to reduce runtimes for complex jobs and waiting times for stocks.
    • Liaise with external contractors to ensure remedial work and repairs are completed to required timescales and budget.
    • Liaise with Leakage Reporting team to advise and collaborate on the development of an efficient work management system for meter jobs.
    • Perform root cause analysis on meter failures and work with the Water Loss Asset and Metering Technicians and to understand the cause of repeat, short-term failures to drive reliability and availability of flow data.
    • Maintain close working relationships with the Leakage Reporting team and Leakage Delivery teams to support achievement of current and future Leakage reduction targets.
    • Take the lead in identifying and trialling new metering and telemetry technology.
    • Champion the importance of accurate metering and data collection in all DWS activities.
    • Support the Leakage Strategy and Reporting Manager through effective collaboration and communication with the other areas of Drinking Water Services.
    • To undertake any other reasonable tasks required to support the DWS and company vision.
    • Participation in DWS DFM Standby Rota.
    • Participate in a clear Progression Scheme

What we’re looking for...


    • Essentials:
    • 5 GCSEs at grades A-C or equivalent in Maths, English and a Science subject; or equivalent
    • Relevant experience in Water Supply - Water Distribution Activity preferred.
    • Experience of flow metering and a good background in technical problem solving
    • Experience of working on distribution network, reservoir and water treatment sites
    • Advanced technical knowledge in the operation of flow and pressure monitoring equipment
    • Ability to show resilience in a fast changing operational environment.
    • Ability to adapt to changing deadlines and conflicting priorities within the DWS team.
    • Full UK Drivers Licence
    • Ability to undertake out of hours standby duties alone.
    • Customer facing skills and ability to deal effectively with customers both internal and external.

    • Desirables:
    • ONC / City and Guilds in relevant subject or NVQ Water Distribution Control Level 2 standard of competence or HNC / Water Diploma.
    • HNC in associated discipline preferred.
    • IOSH/NEBOSH Health & Safety Qualifications (or ability to achieve)
    • Experience of other pipeline/process industries (eg Gas, Chemical) considered.
    • Understanding and knowledge of Quality Management System requirements with ability to update procedures and work instructions where required
