2 day Restoration Experience with the South West Peatland Partnership. South West Water is the lead partner in the South West Peatland Partnership, working together with more than 20 organisations to restore vital peatland across Cornwall, Dartmoor, and Exmoor.
Are you interested in peatland restoration and its positive impacts on natural flood management, water quality, wildlife, and ecosystems? Look no further than this opportunity with Pennon!

Pennon Experience Workplace Programme is aimed at students from ages 14 -17 who are looking to launch their Career in protecting the environment.
In two days, you will get the chance to develop a good understand of peatlands and how they can be restored. Work may include:
·        Restoration walkover surveys, deciding on work that needs to take place on the ground.
·        Archaeological surveys looking at the features to be preserved from the past.
·        Vegetation surveys which are great indicators of the state of the peat, or ecological surveys looking at the creatures that have made the peatlands their home.
·        Opportunity to take part in volunteer work parties, where local people help to maintain the peatland restoration by hand, or at events showcasing our work.
·
The whole work experience placement will take place out on the moorlands of Dartmoor, Exmoor and/or Bodmin Moor. You will need to be keen to be out on the moors in most weather conditions and be able to travel to somewhere close to the moors where we can then collect you in 4x4’s to access our sites. There is flexibility over where you will work; Dartmoor, Exmoor, Bodmin Moor or a combination of different areas. Sites are remote and do not always have reliable mobile phone signal, so we will confirm expected times to return home before we head up to the moor.
If you enjoy being up on the moor then this is the opportunity for you, but please be aware that being outside in nature does also mean a lack of toilet facilities and shelter, so if you prefer a lunch break in a café rather than on the grass this is not the role for you. The SWPP team will be happy to discuss any questions you may have before applying.
