We currently have an opportunity for a Sludge Technician to join our team based in Plymouth. Joining us on a full-time permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary of £32,000 - £34,000 per annum plus excellent benefits.
 
About the role
As our Sludge Technician you will operate Waste Water Treatment Works to ensure site processes are running effectively, and carrying out on site monitoring to ensure effective site operation and that compliance requirements are maintained.

What you’ll be doing:

    • Responding effectively to site conditions and monitoring information that ensure compliance is maintained and the environment is protected
    • Storing and handling chemicals in accordance with COSHH, QMS Procedures and relevant Health and Safety standards
    • Carrying out first line maintenance on instruments & mechanical equipment
    • Liaising with Area Manager, Catchment Pilot and Technical Assistants to ensure schedules are optimised
    • Carrying out calibration of equipment in order to ensure accuracy and reliability
    • Dealing effectively with customer queries when directly approached and passing information up the management line where appropriate
    • Ensuring that all work is carried out safely and that all activities enhance the reputation and image of the company

What we are looking for:

    • 5 GCSEs or equivalent in Maths, English and a Science subject
    • A full UK Driving License to include driving classifications BE & C1 (or equivalent)
    • Previous experience of operating and maintaining sewerage treatment works
    • Experience of working in a team and an understanding of the importance of teamwork
    • Good communication skills, both oral and written
    • A flexible approach to working hours which includes working evenings and weekends as part of the flexible working pattern. This includes participation in a standby rotation
    • Ability to deal with queries from the public and colleagues in a calm, friendly and helpful manner
