We are looking for a full-stack software engineer to join our office in Boston.

Spacemaker sits at the intersection of machine learning and urban planning/architecture (see our website: and blog: Our mission is to design better cities by helping developers and architects respond to rapid global urban migration without sacrificing quality-of-life in increasingly dense cities. Our software helps architects optimize their site designs for living quality using various techniques including AI, ML and simulations. We have  offices in Oslo, Boston, Barcelona, Gothenburg, Stockholm, and Paris. Our current customers are concentrated in Europe, but we are rapidly expanding globally.  

About our Boston Office
Spacemaker’s US office is located in Boston, where we focus on developing predictive and generative design techniques and incorporating them in our product.

Our employees have varying technical and educational backgrounds, with degrees ranging from Bachelors to PhDs in computer science, civil engineering, physics, and math. We are looking for people who share our passion for creating a tool that designs better cities and feel comfortable working both collaboratively within our small team and larger organization, as well as independently.
While this office focuses on predictive and generative design, we work on a variety of projects, ranging from deep learning to energy simulations. All of our projects share the common thread of requiring creativity to solve problems without blueprint solutions.

About this position
We are a collaborative, cross-functional team of data scientists, and you will fill the role as the first software engineer in our office. You will be supported by software engineers in the Oslo office as well as by members of our team, but it is important that you enjoy working autonomously and driving technical decisions. We are looking for someone who is interested in participating in our strong knowledge sharing culture.  In this position, you will work on a variety of projects.

Examples include:

    • Setting up and maintaining services and databases in our cloud-based infrastructure, which is mostly AWS.
    • Create and contribute to Spacemaker’s front-end code and web components, which are mostly written in JavaScript/TypeScript and React.
    • Develop and deploy frameworks that enable machine learning model training and predictions.
