About the Role

As our Senior Legal Counsel, your role will be to advise, lead and manage our core legal, regulatory and internal governance matters. This includes a diverse variety of items across all areas of the business meaning no day will be the same; from customer contracts to employment matters through to major insurance claims and litigation cases. You will also support on major capital raise transactions and various aspects of our board and risk governance. 

We’re in scale up mode and this is a brand new position which forms an exciting opportunity for someone with inhouse experience looking for the next step up in their career, or someone in private practice looking for a change of pace. It will be a hands on role and we will look to you for guidance on all things legal, so having more of a generalist and flexible approach would be highly regarded.  

Here’s more insight to what your day to day will look like:

    • Advising the business on general legal, risk, and governance matters, including developing, implementing, communicating and maintaining legal and corporate governance policies, processes and procedures. 
    • Act as the first legal first point of contact for all external matters. 
    • Work closely with our Operations, Risk & Collections Teams on handling disputes and legal matters. 
    • Act as the privacy officer for the company. 
    • Providing or procuring advice for the business regarding the interpretation and application of relevant legislation. 
    • Ongoing collaboration and advising senior management on compliance and legal matters applicable to them and the business. 
    • Up-skilling the broader teams on legal and regulatory matters. 
    • Provide support with various Board & Management Committee governance. 
    • Develop, manage and own legal processes.   
    • Review all major contracts, NDA’s and engagement letters. 

What You’ll Need:

    • Tertiary qualification in law and holder of a current practising certificate in NSW. 
    • 5-10 years PQE 
    • Proven experience with consumer/small business facing litigation and contract management,ideally in a consumer credit environment (must have).  
    • Have a flexible approach to work;we’rean outcome driven business and you’ll be working across both our Australian and UK groups. 
    • Have high energy and be excited to work in a scale up environment with a mission to make a difference. 
    • Have ambition to progress within the business as we continue to grow. 
    • Ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines and work independently as well as in a team. 
    • Be proactive and adaptable with a positive and professional attitude. 
    • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. 

Highly Desirable:

    • Exposure/Experience in corporate governance, risk management & related areas.  
    • Exposure/Experience with employment legal matters. 
    • Exposure/Experience with Equity Capital Raising, M&A & Debt Finance
