We’re building the future of how millions of users experience our free and premium products, and we’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join us on that journey.
Our team is at the heart of defining what makes each tier, free, mid-tier, and premium, unique. We develop the core systems that power product features across plans, providing the central source of truth for everything from pricing and discounts to feature availability. From APIs and datasets used by teams across the company to systems that manage feature access (like audiobook consumption or on-demand playback), our work shapes the foundation of the user experience.
As a new and fast-moving team, we balance exploration with hands-on implementation, offering plenty of opportunities to take ownership and drive initiatives of all sizes. Collaboration is key to our culture—we partner closely with other teams, ensuring they have the tools and systems they need to succeed.
What You'll Do
- Work with an outstanding team of backend engineers on our product definition system and making it drive more features across all of our Spotify systems
- Work with squads across the Subscriptions mission on centralising the premium product portfolio
- Building out a new system to define product availability, pricing and discounts across Spotify markets
- Ensure timely delivery of technical solutions to address business needs
- Collaborate with key internal partners and stakeholders to determine how to scalably design backend systems and APls
Who You Are
- You have at least two years of experience as a backend engineer and are eager to accelerate your growth in a supportive, senior-led team.
- You have hands-on experience with Java and building APIs, ideally with gRPC.
- You bring experience with, or a strong interest in learning, modern cloud and data technologies, including Google Cloud Platform , Kubernetes, and data processing frameworks like Scio.
- You possess a solid foundation in system design, data structures, and algorithms, and are driven by a curiosity to learn and deepen your expertise.
- You are a strong collaborator who enjoys working with internal partners to understand their needs and build the right solutions.
Where You'll Be
- This role is based in London or Stockholm.
- We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home.
