At Spotify Advertising R&D, our mission is to build the next-generation advertising platform for audio which can scale the freemium experience for hundreds of millions of fans and tens of thousands of advertisers. We are looking for a Backend Engineering intern that will join a growing team in Advertising at Spotify focused on payments. You will work on projects using industry-standard tools to give our Advertisers the best experience and ensure we’re collecting payment timely and accurately.  You’ll be working closely within a team with other engineers at every stage through the software development lifecycle, learning hands-on how to deliver multi-tier applications at scale. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences music.

What you'll do

    • You will work in a cross-functional team with product managers, designers, and other engineers, where you will have a genuine impact on the team’s decisions
    • You will work with industry-standard tools and service providers delivering a world-class advertising product 
    • Keep code maintainable through extensive documentation and automated tests
    • Learn about multiple modern technologies ranging from user-facing software to backend infrastructure

Who you are

    • A current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, and planning to graduate in 2024
    • You currently have valid work authorization to work in the country in which this role is based that will extend from June to August 2023
    • You know how to design and build distributed systems in Java
    • You are experienced with React/JavaScript/CSS/HTML coding and testing
    • You have an understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms
    • You care about quality and know what it takes to ship high-quality code

    • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
    • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location
    • For this role, you can choose to either work from home or from one of our office locations
    • Working hours? We operate within the Eastern Time Zone for collaboration
Our paid summer internships last for 10-13 weeks and start at the beginning of June. The last day to apply is February 16, 2023, at 11:59 PM ET.

The United States hourly rate for this position is 33.00 USD (Undergraduate First Year & Sophomores), 42.00 USD (Undergraduate Juniors & Seniors), 49.00 USD (Masters) & 58.00 USD (PhD) per hour plus a one-time intern stipend of 2,253 USD. This position is overtime eligible. These rates may be modified in the future.
