The Superintendent manages daily construction operations at our job sites. This role includes
overseeing project progress, scheduling workers, and coordinating the delivery of materials and
equipment. The Superintendent plays a crucial role in enhancing the value and experience we
provide to both our customers and employees through continuous improvement.
Previous Experience Requirements
Applicants must have experience supervising railroad construction projects requiring compliance
with 49 CFR Part 213 Track Safety Standards and must be currently or previously qualified
on 49 CFR Part 214 Roadway Workplace Safety Standards. A documented work history
highlighting experience in these areas is required for consideration.
Safety
- Ensure on-track protection is provided at all times when performing work foul of the track under 49 CFR Part 214.
- Ensure compliance with railroad and facility operating rules.
- Maintain a safe work environment—accidents and incidents are not acceptable.
- Prioritize safety in every decision, performing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) before tasks.
- Enforce the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) per company guidelines and customer requirements.
- Immediately report all incidents to the supervisor and HSE manager, participating in safety investigations as necessary.
- Empower employees to exercise stop-work authority for unsafe actions.
Quality
- Ensure all work exceeds the minimum safety standard outlined in 49 CFR Part 213.
- Deliver high-quality work that meets customer expectations and complies with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations.
- Clearly communicate project scopes to ensure team understanding and execution.
- Conduct final inspections to ensure overall project quality.
Financial Management
- Execute projects cost-effectively to protect the company’s financial interests.
- Scrutinize costs and obtain multiple quotes when procuring materials and services.
- Communicate budgetary concerns promptly and seek approval for additional work.
- Review daily logs to ensure accuracy in time, equipment usage, and project progress.
Planning and Communication
- Develop comprehensive project plans and communicate them effectively to all involved parties.
- Coordinate equipment rentals, materials, and manpower well in advance of project commencement.
- Conduct planning meetings and ensure all project documentation is prepared before the project begins.
- Facilitate communication among team members and maintain accurate records of inspections and logs.

- Demonstrate professionalism in interactions with customers, supervisors, peers, and employees.
- Take ownership of projects, actively supporting the workforce and addressing issues as they arise.

- Utilize company resources, including vehicles and credit cards, strictly for business purposes.
- Travel extensively as required, with field superintendents traveling 70-80% of the time.
- Assignments may last from a few weeks to several months, with home travel expenses covered every 4 to 5 weeks.
Regulatory Compliance and Safety Standards
- Background Check (49 CFR Part 40): A review of the last two years of safety-sensitive work history is conducted for applicants applying for roles that require compliance with FRA safety regulations.
- Drug & Alcohol Testing (49 CFR Part 219): Pre-employment, random, reasonable cause, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing are conducted in compliance with FRA requirements. Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
