We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead a dynamic team of employees in a fast-growing, fast-paced work environment. This position ensures projects are delivered successfully and on time, collaborates with engineers and subcontractors to determine projects needs, and oversees staff performance. The Superintendent I follows quality standards and ensures the safety and security of the construction site. This role must be available to work full-time (40 hrs/week) subject to overtime, on call (24/7), alternating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Major Responsibilities

    • Enforce safety and quality control policies among employees and subcontractors to ensure the project runs smoothly and on schedule
    • Collaborate with engineers, subcontractors, supervisors and others to determine project needs
    • Plans construction processes
    • Maintain a daily diary of all activities and site conditions and manage the punch list and closeout process for the job
    • Provides front-line supervision of crew members and provides onsite feedback on their performance.
    • Trains other crew members upon hire and welcomes the team.
    • Monitor and report on project progress
    • Order the appropriate equipment and arrange for regular maintenance
    • Plan inspections and obtain construction permits from local authorities
    • Keep track of material stock and orders
    • Ensure the job site is safe, clean, and orderly
    • Resolve on-site issues and emergencies
    • Comply with company and federal rules, policies, and procedures – wear required safety equipment, respond to and act on safety concerns.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Required

    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • Associate’s degree in construction/business management, or equivalent work experience

Work Experience Required

    • 3+ years of experience in a construction supervisory role. 
    • 5+ years of experience railroad construction or heavy civil construction.
    • Experience operating heavy machinery 

Skills & Knowledge Required

    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FMCSA, DOT, FRA)
    • Knowledge of rail maintenance and/or construction operations
    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
