We believe that the future of real estate will be driven by automation, efficiency, and digital experiences. Our mission is to  provide the products and services necessary to make that happen.

As a part of the Spruce Engineering team, you will help to build a cutting edge platform that will define the future of real estate transactions. In this role, your strong skills and knowledge in modern web platforms, frameworks, and techniques will be put to the test while we create new technology based efficiencies and engineer a transparent, fast transaction process that improves access to the largest source of capital most of us will ever have - real estate.

We are seeking talented backend software engineers to join the team, reporting to the Engineering Manager. Engineers on our team play a critical role in developing infrastructure, user-facing features, and backend services, as well as contributing to our team culture. As an Engineer, you'll be a technical leader and contributor to projects, delivering value throughout the product life cycle. You'll also bring your communication skills and unique background to help make ours a diverse, fun, caring and productive team.

What You'll Do

    • Help build Spruce's user-facing (buyers, sellers, clients, lenders, internal operations) applications and business systems
    • Collaborate using Agile methodologies with Design and Product teams to craft technical solutions to business problems
    • Help optimize overall system reliability and performance
    • Continuously learn and challenge yourself and others

What We're Looking For

    • 3+ years professional experience building server-side web applications with modern languages and frameworks
    • Experience with Java and Spring (bonus points for Kotlin)
    • Experience building single-page applications with modern JavaScript frameworks (React preferred)
    • Familiarity with relational database systems and the structure of SQL queries
    • Able to independently execute on software development projects, incorporating feedback and deepening your knowledge.
    • Eager to work in close collaboration with others, share knowledge, and learn from team mates. Able to effectively communicate with people across the organization.
    • Willingness to take responsibility for accomplishing things; desire to be an active participant in the decision making process

Compensation

    • The anticipated annual compensation range for this position is $155,000 - $185,000.  Stock options are typically a part of the total compensation package determined on a role-by-role basis. Your actual compensation may vary depending on your relevant skills and experience.
    • We provide a competitive benefit package that includes 4 weeks paid PTO, 20 paid sick days, 12 weeks paid parental leave, and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
    • We pride ourselves on a culture where everyone is treated with respect, kindness, and appreciation.
We are proud of the team we’re building. We're committed to equal opportunity employment -- and beyond. We believe diverse experiences and perspectives build a stronger team and a better product. We welcome fresh perspectives and challenge our own assumptions to make Spruce better. The more inclusive we are as a company, the better we can serve our customers.
