Who We’re Looking For (Position Overview):
The UC Engineer supports the Collaboration and Identity Services Section (CISS), specifically the Communication Services Unit (CSU). This role provides mid‑level engineering support for enterprise-wide audio/video and unified communications platforms within a zero‑trust framework. Responsibilities span from deploying and configuring technologies to routine system maintenance and troubleshooting across both classified and unclassified systems.
What Your Day-To-Day Looks Like (Position Responsibilities):
- Design, deploy, and configure UC technologies including VoIP, video conferencing (VTC), instant messaging, presence systems, and streaming endpoints.
- Maintain and troubleshoot UC infrastructure—IP phones, session border controllers, video endpoints, gateways, routers, switches, and virtualization platforms
- Monitor performance and security: Implement QoS, conduct system health assessments, apply patches, perform capacity planning, and tune systems to meet service level objectives .
- Integrate UC platforms with enterprise services (e.g., Active Directory, Exchange, identity platforms), and support cross-domain VoIP/VTC interoperability.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, network, and systems engineering teams to ensure zero-trust compliance and integrate security controls across UC platforms
- Document all system configurations: compile network diagrams, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and end‑user training materials .
What You Need to Succeed (Minimum Requirements):
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in enterprise UC environments
- Hands‑on experience with core UC systems.
- Strong understanding of UC protocols: SIP, H.323, RTP; network fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP; QoS design and optimization.
- Experience managing virtualization platforms and Windows/Linux server environments.
- Proven ability in UC system monitoring, performance tuning, capacity planning, and applying security patches.
- Effective troubleshooting and analytical skills for network and voice/video infrastructure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience preparing technical documentation and user/training guides.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cyber, network, systems, and vendor teams.
