Job Title - Structural Engineer-In-Training 1
Location - Phoenix, AZ
Job Type – Onsite

Stanley Consultants is currently hiring for a Structural Engineer-In-Training (EIT) position in our Phoenix, AZ office. In this career foundation position, you will be part of a team supporting our clients by providing technical assistance with analysis and  design calculations, drawing preparation, quantity estimates, and field reviews on structural projects throughout Arizona. Projects include the structural engineering of bridges, retaining walls, culverts, foundations, water/waste water facilities and other structures – both new and existing. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and eager to learn from, and contribute to, our transportation structures group.

What You Will Be Doing:

    • Apply appropriate codes, standards and principles related to a wide variety of projects including bridge design and load rating assignments.
    • Perform basic engineering calculations.
    • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents pertaining to various projects.
    • Prepare high quality contract documents (plans, specifications, and estimates) for the construction of structures such as bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, and overhead sign structures.
    • Recognize and identify potential technical issues and initiate communication for appropriate corrective actions.
    • Utilize the appropriate software to perform structural analysis and design; STAAD, -Bentley Open Bridge Designer, AASHTOWare, MDX, MathCAD, and spreadsheets.
    • Prepare working and final drawings in accordance with client standards using appropriate CADD software; Bentley MicroStation, Autodesk AutoCAD. Open Bridge Designer, ProStructures.
    • Prepare drawings, sketches, and displays using Microstation or other CAD software.
    • Coordinate with other disciplines regarding  structural requirements, layouts and details.
    • Assist in field evaluations of existing structures.

Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, a structural engineering emphasis is preferred.
    • Engineer-Intern (EI) certification/license.
    • Possess 0 to 4 years of relevant experience with structures. 
    • Previous experience with structural engineering software is preferred but not required.
    • Excellent communication skills are essential to develop productive working relationships with other team members and disciplines.
    • Excellent organizational skills are essential to perform tasks on multiple projects at a given time.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering emphasis; OR possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering AND have at least 2 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
    • Any Intern experience in bridge design, structural analysis, or inspection will be a plus.
    • Previous experience with Microstation (or AutoCAD) is preferred but not required.
    • Experience using Mathcad, RISA, and STAADPro or other structural analysis software.
Stanley’s Approach to Flexibility
While some members choose to work out of their local office on a full-time basis, we offer a hybrid schedule for eligible positions consisting of two days a week in the office, two days a week remotely, and Friday being a flexible day that can be worked either in the office or at home. Eligible roles can also offer a compressed workweek schedule. Members who participate will be assigned a 9/80 work schedule, meaning every other Friday off!
