Position Overview: Paraprofessionals at STEM Prep Academy are responsible for the endearment and behavior of students with exceptionalities. We rely on paraprofessionals to be emotionally constant and maintain order to best support the needs of students and the classroom environment. Successful applicants will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a college preparatory curriculum aligned to the Tennessee standards. Many times, support is focused on strategies aiding students to complete work. Support also requires data collection, tracking and analysis. Moreover, paraprofessionals will model professionalism with positive language, optimism and timeliness. 

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Enjoys working with middle or high school-aged youth
    • Requires at least 30 college credit hours
    • Previous history working with youth

Responsibilities:

    • Foster a motivating, supportive, learning-centered culture of excellence in a well-structured and managed classroom.
    • Assists the Special Education Teacher and General Education teacher in instruction for scholars with exceptionalities in the classroom.
    • Provides 1-on-1 support to scholars in a classroom setting, while also circulating to check in with other students and support the classroom environment. Provides intense monitoring of student behavior as indicated on the students Individual Educational Program (IEP) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).Maintains daily tracking via Purposeful Active Monitoring checklists.
    • Facilitates communication, promotes independence, and increases the social, academic, and self-help skills of students.
    • Supports specified students during unstructured times throughout the school day (i.e. transitions) by maintaining hallway expectations (level 0 and walking in line).Follows Culture guidelines outlined in the Adaptive Ed and Inclusion checklists.
    • Turns around feedback in regards to checklist fidelity checks and observations.
    • Participates in Special Education/Student Supports meetings and Team meetings (including morning huddles at 7:45am (HS) or 8:00am (MS))Attends all school-based professional development sessions (stay until 5:15pm once per week for staff meetings).Upholds other periodic responsibilities requested by the School Team, such as providing Student Supports testing coverage and any other duties as assigned.
    • Attends weekly coaching meetings with BCBA/Adaptive Ed. Teacher.
    • Swaps designated students for support on a weekly basis, actively acquiring new skills to support all students.
    • Communicates proactively with families regarding student progress and support (Printing weekly data reports for ULS and Dean’s List to send home to families, calling/texting families on a weekly basis).Completes action items listed on Free Time Checklist to ensure preparedness for instruction.
    • Other duties as assigned including language translation
