Starting Salary: $55,000

Position Overview: The Assistant Dean of Students at STEM Preparatory Academy supports the overall school culture and climate by assisting in the design, implementation, and management of systems and structures that promote student success and well-being. This includes the monitoring of classroom instruction, design and implementation of school-wide positive behavior systems, planning and execution of school-wide incentives and celebrations, and management of daily discipline. This role is central to fostering a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The Assistant Dean of Students reports to the Assistant Principal of Student Culture (APS) and works closely the leadership team to achieve ambitious outcomes.
 

Required Qualifications:

    • Three years of teaching experience with evidence of strong classroom culture
    • School leadership experience
    • Event planning experience
    • Ability to hold adults accountable while building and maintaining relationships
    • Eagerness to resolve conflicts, not avoid them.
    • Demonstrated commitment to Anti Racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and a students first mindset
    • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
    • Feels confident, compelled and proactive in creating, monitoring and evaluating action plans 

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Outstanding performance as a lead teacher, supporting student outcomes that exceed district and state performance
    • Proven track record of family and community collaborations that drive strong student outcomes and results
    • Demonstrated results in coaching adult learners and practitioners to meet individual and collective performance targets, resulting in student outcomes that exceed district and state performance
    • Background in classroom management and effective instruction; experience as a strong disciplinarian
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with people of varied cultural and educational backgrounds
    • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain accurate records

Development and Management of Culture

    • Support the design, implement, and evaluate school-wide positive behavioral supports in alignment with the “Love and Logic” model.
    • Facilitates and supports family and parent communications to include quarterly parent academy workshops
    • Work with APS to create systems and procedures to cultivate a student culture grounded in STEM Prep’s core values of drive, integrity, collaboration, inquiry, and imagination.
    • Responsible for the supervision, safety, and well-being of students and staff
    • Motivates, encourages, and builds relationships with students in order to promote a warm and caring environment.
    • Manage and facilitate the student discipline and behavioral management system consistent with the STEM Prep core values and discipline model.
    • Facilitate all discipline cases directed to school administration and work with families to ensure positive outcomes.
    • Plan and implement the student activities “Joy Calendar” throughout the year.
    • Plan, advertise, and execute culture events for students and staff
    • Monitor after school detention or restorative room
    • Responding to Tier I and Tier II classroom school-related incidents
    • Supporting the investigation of Tier III incidents
    • The ability to analyze behavioral data, identify trends and areas of growth, and develop solutions to improve outcomes
    • An emphasis on prioritizing students being in class as much as possible, and centering restoration as a core value of our approach

    • Work with APS to hold adults accountable through crucial conversations
    • Work with APS to designs, facilitates, and evaluates the outcomes of staff professional development
    • Manage student behavior systems, including discipline procedures, restorative practices, and interventions
    • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support their social-emotional well-being
    • Support crisis management efforts, including de-escalation and parent communication
    • Serve as a liaison between students, families, and community-based service providers
    • Act as a resource for identifying classroom management issues and promoting positive behavior
    • Support student leadership development and coordinate student-led events and initiatives
    • Partner with student clubs and affinity groups to ensure representation and support
    • Serves as an exemplary model for strong classroom culture

Administrative Responsibilities

    • Serves as an exemplary role model for setting a high standard for student culture and academic performance.
    • Implement a school-wide behavior and culture plan aligned with STEM Prep’s values
    • Continuously monitor and evaluate student culture, integrating these data with existing data systems.
    • Attend after school events and parent nights as needed.
    • Monitor and help lead after-school programming and detention/restorative room processes
    • Provide supervision at extracurricular events as needed
    • Other duties as assigned.
