About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our Amsterdam based Digital Marketing Platform and Product Creative Platform teams.
The teams are responsible for enabling their stakeholder functions to be more efficient by enhancing business autonomy whilst supporting value creation opportunities. The Digital Marketing Platform team fuels marketing and commercial growth with a reliable, user-friendly platform for self-service discounts and campaigns.
The Product Creative Platform team boosts customer creativity and profitability with a stable platform and automated tools that simplify and accelerate the creation of engaging design assets.
About our Digital Marketing Platform Team:
The team mission is to enable marketing and commercial to drive growth by building, maintaining and simplifying the core platform for discounts and campaigns, focusing on making it self-service and efficient for them and ensuring everything is clear for customers and compliant with legal standards.
The team is based in Amsterdam, with 2 remote contractors working on SEO and commercial tactical needs while the team addresses the platform enablers. The technology stack is a mix of .NET and Javascript/Typescript, with the ambition to standardise and simplify the estate whilst building scalable and versatile platform solutions.
About the Product Creative Platform Team:
The team mission is to empower customer creativity and drive profitability by delivering a sustainable platform and automated solutions that simplify and accelerate the creation of joyful themes and design assets, ultimately enriching the customer experience.
The team is responsible for devising the next generation of tooling to enable our product creative team and our customers to efficiently take advantage of themes across our product range. As this is a greenfield area for Storio, the team’s engineers are remote-based and are staffed by our consultancy partner, which will allow us to flex team make-up and skillset as the space matures.
Who We’re Looking For:
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our Amsterdam and distributed teams and help us accelerate the platform vision. We want you to create and lead high-performing teams that deliver on their mission. In addition, we expect the Engineering Manager to take on initiatives at the domain and organisation level having a larger impact across Engineering to accelerate growth.
Whilst this is not a role that requires hands-on software development, we are looking for an experienced manager who has a strong delivery and technical background. You’ve been a software engineer in the past and now thrive in building and connecting technical teams to business outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities:
People Management
- Lead 2 mission-led teams of respectively 6 (4 perm + 2 contractors), and 2 (contractors) engineers.
- Coach individuals to grow their career, increase mastery and autonomy whilst holding them accountable for high performance.
- Own the recruitment process for your team.
- Accountable for team health, fostering an open and collaborative feedback culture.
Delivery/Execution
- Partner with a Product Manager to define initiatives aligned with our OKRs and strategy, scope projects and define milestones.
- Communicate with key stakeholders at all levels.
- Accountable for delivery performance of the team.
- Accountable for team processes and ways of working.
- Drive continuous improvement on key metrics such as business value, cost efficiency, speed, and quality of delivery.
- Own resolution of cross-team dependencies.
Technical excellence
- Oversee design decisions owned by the principal engineers of the team and domain.
- Cultivate best engineering practices within the software development lifecycle.
- Balance tech health and quality excellence with time to delivery.
- Create opportunities for technical exploration and innovation within your team.
Cross-team leadership
- Influence decision-making across the technical organisation as part of a wider community of engineering managers and technical leaders.
- Establish partnerships within and outside the domain to amplify the impact of your team.
- Lead in-domain standardisation efforts on people, process and technology.
- Own your team’s people and tech budgets in relation to the value created by the team within the business.

Experience and Attributes we'd like to see
- Solid track record of building and leading high-performance platform teams.
- Experience in navigating a complex enterprise-wide customer landscape with competing priorities.
- Experience in building platforms through agile delivery methods and in lockstep with product managers and senior engineers.
- Experience guiding teams to make significant technical decisions spanning customer facing and platform teams.
- Excellent communication skills, making complex topics simple, transparent and easy to act upon.
- Extensive experience as an Engineering Manager.
- Prior experience as a software engineer.
Nice to Have Experience and Qualifications
- A degree in a STEM field, e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics
- Knowledge of the ecommerce domain
