YOUR ROLE
senior estimator is responsible for overseeing the creation of accurate and timely estimates for public and private work projects, including large-scale and design-build/alternative procurement projects. This role requires a highly organized individual with strong analytical skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality estimates. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with effective communication and leadership abilities. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

    • Review proposal specifications, drawings, soil reports, and site conditions to determine project scope.
    • Lead the Estimating Team in the timely roll-out and execution of the estimate deliverable process.
    • Mentor and manage estimators, interns, and other team members, as necessary.
    • Coordinate total estimated effort for assigned bids/projects.
    • Oversee coordination of pre-bid RFIs prior to specified due dates.
    • Oversee the good faith effort process and communicate DBE requirements.
    • Monitor owner changes and advise on scope changes during the estimate period.
    • Coordinate scope of work internally and with subcontractors.
    • Interface with project team and contractors for project feasibility data.
    • Monitor post-bid submission dates for contract procurement.
    • Monitor actual cost versus estimated cost.
    • Prepare budgets, subcontracts, purchase orders, and preliminary project schedules.
    • Maintain files and working documents for estimating figures.
    • Track work history and review project schedules.
    • Critically analyze bid documents to understand risks and opportunities, articulating them to the Chief Estimator.
    • Manage owner relationships and participate in business development.
    • Conduct post-project debriefings to discuss outcomes.
    • Identify and monitor upcoming target projects.
    • Gather and monitor actual cost vs. estimated cost, maintaining project cost history.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED: Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in-lieu of a degree. 
    • 10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction estimating. 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED: Skills

    • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, B2Win (and/or HCSS), P6, and Agtek.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects with high attention to detail.
    • Resourceful in problem-solving and adapting to new situations.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED: Technical Knowledge

    • Strong knowledge of estimating techniques, engineering disciplines, and cost control systems.
    • Ability to read plans and specifications and perform takeoffs.
    • Understanding of time impact analysis and time-related overhead.
    • Familiarity with contract accounting and critical path method.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED: Other

    • Valid driver's license; clean driving record.

$150,000 - $180,000 a year
The reasonable compensation range for this position includes a new hire base salary rate of $150,000 – 180,000 annually + comprehensive benefits + potential for a discretionary profit-sharing bonus. Individual pay within this compensation range may span multiple levels within the role and is determined by assessing job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.  It also factors in market demands and business needs.  The disclosed range may be subject to change or modification based on business needs in the future.
