Sunrise Training Fellowship

Philadelphia, PA
Organizing – 2020 Training Fellowship
Fellow
Sunrise Movement is dedicated to stopping climate change and creating millions of good jobs in the process, by building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people.  In November 2018, following our 6-month 75-person electoral organizing fellowship, Sunrise Semester, we launched the campaign for a Green New Deal alongside Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In 2019, Sunrise has continued fighting for a Green New Deal and elevating the urgency of climate change in the public and the media. Sunrise Movement Education Fund (501c3) and Sunrise (501c4) are organizations dedicated to supporting the mobilization and leadership of Sunrise Movement.

Fellowship vision
We have 11 years to stop the climate crisis. Are you ready to make 2020 count?

We are SO excited to launch the 2020 Spring Training Fellowship to grow our movement's preparedness for all 2020 and beyond will require.

For decades, fossil fuel billionaires have been buying out our politicians while targeting the most vulnerable communities and selling lies to the public. Now, we have 11 years to stop the climate crisis and transform our society to be one that works for the people.

Since Sunrise launched three years ago, we made climate change a top priority for voters and are restructuring the American political alignment. In 2018, Sunrise Movement helped elect 19 out of 30 endorsed candidates, including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Alongside AOC, we put the urgency of the climate crisis and on the map. Just a year ago, we launched the Green New Deal into the spotlight during our action in Nancy Pelosi's office--today: it is the national litmus test for presidential hopefuls.

The Green New Deal is the only plan that addresses the crises we face at the scale we face them. It is a plan that centers the needs of the communities most impacted by the climate crisis: Black communities, Indigenous communities, working class communities, people of color, while reckoning with the fact that this crisis is at a scale which means we all will lose the places we call home, air we breathe and water we drink if we do not act fast.

2020 is a turning point, and our generation has the power to decide what this country's fate will be. Sunrise is building an army of young people to end climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process, and trainers in this fellowship will be key in skilling up hubs leading the work across the country, resourcing them with the skills to build the movement we need to win.

There are hard and sad days to be sure. But together, we will change this country and this world, sure as the Sun rises each morning.

NO Prior experience training required.

Apply for the 2020 Spring Training Fellowship to support movement leaders in growing their skills.

Fellowship support
We work to make Sunrise fellowships as accessible as possible to those most directly impacted by injustice, including those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. With this in mind, this is the financial support structure for the fellowship:

Sunrise fellows will be paid as full-time staff and will receive health insurance as part of the program. We are committed to the program being accessible to people from all financial backgrounds, especially those most impacted by the climate crisis.

We also know that the revolution will not be staffed, and we take seriously the sacrifices our supporters make in order to donate to the movement.
Sunrise Principle 6 states “We ask for help, and we give what we can.” We do not believe anyone should be profiting from the work of the movement, so although there are more than enough resources to support everyone's financial needs in this program, we ask that if you come from a background of wealth or moderate financial privilege, you consider donating back to the movement.

Your ability to contribute to the costs will NOT be a barrier to participation in the program. There will be room below to indicate in detail your financial situation.

After a multi-week training which all fellows will participate in mid-March, fellows will:

    • Train at one and two day trainings in hubs across the country to skill up the army of young people fighting for a Green New Deal
    • Provide coaching and feedback to trainers in hubs on Sunrise DNA and field organizing skills
