Account Director, Lifestyle & Entertainment

New York, NY

Sunshine Sachs Morgan & Lylis is proud to represent clients across many industries including entertainment, social good, tech and lifestyle and we tell their stories through a variety of mediums.  We know that even during the toughest times, our responsibility to our clients and each other can bring meaningful and long-lasting impact for those affected the most. We’re proud of each and every campaign we execute, but you may be wondering why we don’t have more than a landing page as our website. While many of our clients are household names (you know them, we’re sure of it), our digital footprint is purposefully small. We fly under the radar and we like it that way.

If you are fired up and ready to do good, join us!

We are looking for a hardworking, multifaceted Account Director to join our lifestyle and entertainment media relations team located in our New York office. This role is for someone who is passionate about pop culture, entertainment and consumer trends and has an interest in working across multiple industries. The ideal candidate should have a range of experience from working with brands to develop and launch campaigns, drive news and elevate partnerships with celebrities and pop-culture moments, as well as experience working in entertainment, whether that be on events (awards shows, festivals, premieres, etc.) or with content creators (media properties, film/TV/streaming, etc.).

Our candidate is curious. They may work on lifestyle clients across various industries, including hospitality, beauty, tech, luxury, health and wellness, as well as entertainment clients centered around events, content and more. They see this as a challenge and opportunity to grow their skill set.

This candidate must be able to identify the story we are trying to tell and understand the steps it takes to place it. They know how to develop strategic campaigns, cultivate out-of-the-box ideas, and create opportunities for clients to tap into pop culture moments and trends. They must have a breadth of lifestyle and entertainment media relationships -- from People Magazine and Access Hollywood to Good Morning America, GQ and Glamour --  and they know who to take a specific pitch to and how to get them to attend an event, cover a campaign, interview a spokesperson and more.

They have their finger on the pulse of cultural conversations. They will know the latest trends on TikTok, which celebrities are driving current headlines, what makes Gen Z tick, and how consumer habits are shifting in a “post-pandemic” world.

This candidate should have experience managing people and will be expected to oversee media relations executives on their accounts. Our Account Directors lead accounts with little-to-no oversight – this includes counseling clients, managing projects, providing fresh ideas, motivating teams, ensuring goals are being met and…they still pitch! Our agency is integrated, and our Account Directors frequently work on accounts that involve aspects of brand integration, talent and influencer integration, digital strategy, etc. While we don’t expect you to be fluent in all of these areas, we anticipate that this will excite you!

You Should Apply If:

    • You have at least 8 years of experience working in an agency setting or relevant industry
    • You’ve managed a team with direct oversight for at least 2 years (of those 8 mentioned above) of 2-5 people and have a proven track record and developing them in their careers
    • You have experience overseeing events and working with clients across various industries including but not limited to entertainment, hospitality, beauty, tech, luxury, health and wellness, etc.
    • You have established relationships with entertainment and consumer/lifestyle media and have a track record of placing strategic high level stories
    • You thrive in a collaborative and integrated environment and understand how to work with talent, partners, vendors, and other teams without skipping a beat
    • You are comfortable leading an account with team members in other offices/geographies
    • You are a skilled and highly-organized project manager
    • You live by the “we, not me” mentality
    • You understand almost all aspects of integrated communications (media relations, social media, creative, brand integration, talent integration)
    • You are a strong writer – persuasive, concise, creative, and quick!
    • You are a strategic thinker - you can develop an effective strategy, bring new ideas to the table, rethink traditional concepts, and love a good brainstorm
    • You can develop media events that resonate with press, drive engagement online and offline, and establish opportunities with talent, influencers, nonprofit partners, etc.
    • You have strong decision-making abilities and accountability; this is an important role, own it!
    • You’re willing to work select evenings/weekends and travel when necessary
    • You enjoy over delivering rather than meeting expectations and take genuine pride in being part of something good

Responsibilities Include:

    • Leading account teams and managing projects from start to finish.
    • Responding to client requests and ensure requests are taken care of in an efficient manner.
    • Developing and executing comprehensive communications strategies, ensuring tactics map back to the client’s business goals.
    • Developing an impactful and trusting relationship with clients.
    • Creating, editing and proofreading materials including press releases, pitches, fact sheets, FAQs, and client correspondence.
    • Participating in new business meetings, creating proposals as needed.
    • Partnering and collaborating with senior level colleagues throughout the agency on integrated (and bi-coastal) accounts.
    • Regularly bringing new opportunities for clients – media meetings, key introductions, etc.
    • Training and mentoring junior staff on the inner workings and executions of PR, media relations, and overall client management. This is incredibly important to us!
