POSITION
Reframe Data Services is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to contribute to research that advances the state of the art in AI news generation. The successful candidate will have a foundation in engineering or computer science and be proficient in core software development. You will help build data-driven platforms with potential impact across politics, scientific knowledge creation, and healthcare. This role offers the opportunity to work in small, collaborative teams with both US and non-US developers and to influence real-world technology solutions.
RESPONIBILITIES
- Develop and contribute to new data-driven frameworks and platforms that support AI news generation, with emphasis on reliability, scalability, and ethical considerations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research ideas into working prototypes and production-ready components.
- Assist with data ingestion, processing, and analysis workflows, including unstructured data handling and transformation.
- Help implement and optimize components that leverage large language models (LLMs) and related AI tooling.
- Contribute to documentation, unit tests, and example pipelines to promote reusability and maintainability.
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and agile ceremonies; communicate progress clearly to teammates in the US and abroad.
- Support ongoing research projects and initiatives, including experimentation, data collection, and evaluation.
TECHNOLOGIES
- Must-have - Python, JavaScript, Node.js, Kafka, Experience with LLMs and processing unstructured data
- Nice-to-have - LangChain, GraphQL, OpenSearch (or Elasticsearch), AWS (general cloud engineering concepts)
REQUIREMENTS
- Located near Bethesda, MD
- 2–3 years of software engineering experience (or equivalent coursework/projects)
- Strong academic foundation or demonstrated interest in software engineering, AI, data analysis, or related field
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline
- Solid understanding of AWS services and cloud-based architectures
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including active listening
- Interest in politics, policy, or finance
- Experience working in small, cross-cultural teams
- Familiarity with data privacy, ethics, and responsible AI considerations
$75,000 - $85,000 a year
