North Bethesda, MD

Background:
The Sunwater Institute is a non-profit, nonpartisan think tank dedicated to strengthening the foundations of democracy through interdisciplinary science, technology, and open dialogue. As an intern at the Sunwater Institute, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on the most pressing issues facing Congress and society.

Our Summer 2024 internship program runs from June 3rd through August 2nd. As an intern, you'll work alongside full-time staff members to conduct research, analyze data, and develop tools that will be used by Congress and other partner institutions.

Development and Fundraising Intern Responsibilities:
Interns can count on an informative, intensive summer term intended to provide real-world experience in development and discover a broad range of skills that will help them become future non-profit leaders and fundraising experts.  Throughout the term, interns will learn from a team of subject matter experts while taking part in hands-on work such as prospect research and management, cultivation and solicitation strategies, and donor stewardship.  Interns will also develop a major funding proposal and/or substantive fundraising strategic document as a concrete work product.

Our internship program is open to current and recent undergraduate students. We are looking for candidates with a strong academic foundation in political science, history, economics, philosophy, or related fields. Our program offers flexibility in hours.

In addition to the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research, interns will benefit from our location in the Washington area. Near the Red Line, we are just a short walk or bus ride from the Twinbrook Metro Station. This is an unpaid position.

How to Apply:
To apply, please submit an application package that includes a cover letter, resume, and two references. Your cover letter should explain your interest in the field, and highlight your academic experiences that would inform your research at the Sunwater Institute. Your references should include the names and contact information of two academic or professional references who can speak to your qualifications for the position. Applications for the Summer Semester are due by May 20, 2024. Applications will be reviewed as they come in.

We look forward to considering your application for this exciting opportunity to contribute to the work of the Sunwater Institute.
