Building on its extensive programming and successful model in the United States, KIND is expanding in the Americas and Europe to bring its experience to bear in working with unaccompanied and separated children. Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.

Position Summary
KIND seeks a Paralegal, Legal Training to join its Training and Technical Assistance team within the organization’s Global Partnerships, Capacity Strengthening and Training department.  The Training and Technical Assistance team is a multi-disciplinary team comprised of legal and psychosocial service professionals that work together to provide holistic, trauma informed, culturally responsive training and technical assistance on unaccompanied children’s cases. The incumbent will expand and enhance the team’s capacity to identify and respond to legal training needs and to create materials explaining immigration legal processes, rights and responsibilities to unaccompanied children.  The Paralegal, Legal Training will help to organize and update legal resources and guidance and will support work to design and deliver training and technical assistance to a network of professionals providing legal services to unaccompanied children following release from U.S. federal custody. 
The Paralegal, Legal Training reports to the Managing Attorney, Training and Technical Assistance.

This is a remote position based from any location in the U.S. 

This position is contingent upon continued funding.

Essential Functions

    • Support Legal Training and Technical Assistance Functions

    • Conducts legal research for training, related legal technical assistance, and practice guidance. 
    • Supports team members in the development of training presentations and training curricula.
    • Collaborates with team members in the development of information and outreach materials for unaccompanied children and their caregivers.
    • Cite checks legal and training documents.
    • Participates in the organization, administration, delivery, and recording of training presentations and training events. 
    • Maintains a calendar of training events. 
    • Monitors and records training participation and evaluation metrics. 
    • Monitors and evaluates training needs and program effectiveness.
    • Assists with optimizing the organization, accessibility, and integration of KIND’s legal technical assistance resources within organization-wide platforms.
    • Assists with the development, launch, organization, and maintenance of a training and technical assistance portal for legal services professionals.
    • Drafts short descriptions of training materials.
    • Provides support in the preparation, updating, and copy editing of practice advisories, samples, guidance, and updates for legal services professionals.
    • Coordinates staff schedules and schedule technical assistance sessions.
    • Drafts fliers publicizing training and technical assistance sessions.
    • Edits content to comply with KIND style guide. 

    • Other Duties 

    • Assists the team with administrative tasks.
    • Other duties as assigned. 
    • Travels as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

    • Undergraduate degree with one year of relevant experience; or high school diploma with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. 
    • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children, preferably at-risk youth, immigrant or refugee children, and/or working with vulnerable populations, survivors of abuse, human trafficking, or other trauma. 
    • Must be fluent in English and Spanish.
    • Experience teaching or training preferred.
    • Experience with SharePoint, video production, and/or editing a plus.
    • Prior experience working in a legal setting preferred.
    • Willing and able to travel occasionally to KIND U.S. field offices or other locations within the United States.
    • Proficiency in using legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, Fastcase, etc.), training and webinar software (Zoom, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.). 
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (such as Teams, Excel, etc.).
    • Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment. ability to prioritize tasks and delegate as appropriate.
    • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, and communication styles.
    • Demonstrate discipline and adaptability to effectively deliver on our core mission of ensuring access to justice and safeguarding children’s well-being and rights.
    • Ability to multitask and work with a sense of urgency in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
    • Committed to practicing and supporting wellbeing and a work-home life balance. 
    • Experience working and communicating in a remote environment preferred but not required. 

$23 - $29.14 an hour
