About the role
Laboratory Technicians at Sygnature Discovery play a pivotal role in supporting our scientists, ensuring they have the resources they need to carry out scientific research within our well-equipped and cutting-edge laboratories. Whilst this role does not offer a route into a scientific position, it is a fantastic opportunity for a highly enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Laboratory Technician team in their efforts to support the successful day-to-day running of our Alderley Park laboratories.

Main duties and responsibilities:

    • Stock checking of general consumable stores and re-ordering, including solvents, consumables, department specific stock, dry and NMR solvents, columns, phase seps, solid load, etc.
    • Allocation of bar codes as requested by Scientists for importing into the Chemical Inventory.
    • Waste management, including solvent waste, cardboard waste, and clinical waste (in conjunction with Waste Collection Services at Alderley Park)
    • General Lab equipment maintenance and/or coordinating engineers for repairs and servicing of equipment in conjunction with scientists
    • Assisting with decontamination of equipment (Incubators, Bioscience, DMPK)
    • Assisting in the preparation of reagent/buffer prep and aliquoting reagents
    • Other tasks such organising lab coat laundry, sink flushing, safety shower checks
    • Register and recording Fixed Asset Numbers on new equipment purchases and recording them on Amici
    • Co-ordinating dispatches between Sygnature sites
    • Proactively seeking to support others within the team during quiet periods.
    • Using relevant systems to identify tasks and track their resolution. (Including Spiceworks, whiteboard trackers and Netsuite)
    • Maintaining a tidy workplace in addition to a high level of H&S awareness.
    • Remaining contactable during working hours.
    • Liaising with the team to ensure core working hours and tasks are covered.

Key Requirements:

    • 10 GCSEs or equivalent at grade C or above including English Language and Maths
    • A can-do, enthusiastic work attitude
    • Able to work to deadlines in a safe and efficient manner – prioritising tasks as necessary
    • Great attention to detail
    • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
    • A good working knowledge of mathematics and IT – confident in the use of a variety of IT system, including Outlook, Word, Excel and ideally some experience of using purchasing systems.
    • Previous laboratory experience would be advantageous but is not essential as full training will be provided
