POSITION SUMMARY

We’re seeking an entrepreneurial and analytical leader relentlessly determined to provide the highest level of customer experience possible.  The Manager of Purchasing and Materials directs the procurement and materials management group to ensure that the company effectively meets its commitments to its customers.

The Manager is responsible and accountable for ensuring we have what we need, where we need it, when we need it, at the best price and while maximizing inventory efficiency (turns). 

The Manager is the business leader in evaluation and development of strategic supplier relationships and pricing negotiations to meet the company’s business objectives.  The position calls for an agile professional who excels in creatively solving problems.  

Finally, the Manager will implement systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain, while ensuring product quality, availability, and pricing

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Immediately identify and prioritize key product classes and SKUs based on movement (including seasonality), replenishment requirements and system settings involving EOQ, Safety Stock, ROP, lead times, etc., and update as needed.
    • Continuous assessment of product velocity by sku and branch, and development of systems to maximize agile response to changing conditions
    • Develop and maintain key supplier relationships; negotiate, develop, and maintain all procurement contracts for competitive pricing, service levels, and legal terms
    • Forecast price and market trends to identify opportunities for to improve costs/service
    • Review/revise supplier scorecards and audit process as appropriate.
    • Closely work with sales, operations and branch management to ensure we are the most responsive supplier we can be.
    • Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking.
    • Ensure inventory levels support demand - minimizing stock outs (what we need, where we need it, when we need it)
    • Develop/enhance robust demand planning procedures to support the business, while continuously striving to eliminate slow moving, excess and obsolete inventory
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
    • Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, directing and supervising, evaluating and otherwise ensuring the success of staff in the Materials department, in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

    • 5+ years of Purchasing and Materials Management experience.
    • Entrepreneurial and agile management approach
    • Experience with perishable goods or those with a limited shelf life
    • Strong knowledge of supply chain management
    • Proven history of developing effective inventory management policies
    • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Computer skills required:  Inventory and integrated ERP/Accounting Software, Oracle NetSuite strongly preferred with NetStock a plus; Warehouse Management System Software; Microsoft Office Suite.
