We are looking for a Senior Director, Capital Markets, who will be responsible for all aspects of capital markets, including sourcing, closing, operationalizing, and managing debt funding relationships. Negotiate and structure innovative debt transactions to optimize our cost of capital and maintain funding targets. Build and actively maintain a robust funding pipeline; engage, establish and manage relationships with new and existing private credit investors (including family offices, credit funds, total return funds, etc.). In addition, develop and manage relationships with counterparties, including bank partners, investors, rating agencies, tax advisors, and external counsel. 

What you’ll do

    • Develop forecast models and presentations to market Tala to institutional investors and lenders; create regular touchpoints with potential funders to keep Tala top of mind
    • Provide strategic analysis and insights on new opportunities outside of existing funding structures and relationships, including new lending product ideas, emerging capital sources (e.g. crypto), and equity opportunities 
    • Responsible for daily operating relationships with our capital markets providers, including interfacing with lenders, providing periodic reporting, and discussing new product offerings; should have a keen focus on sustainability and durability of reporting and associated processes to minimize errors and strain on the team 
    • Ensure compliance with funding requirements, notices, and reporting; work with Finance, Data, and Credit to develop near and long-term reporting infrastructure to support debt facilities (e.g. define requirements, validate output and troubleshoot where needed)
    • Work with Accounting and Legal to ensure our corporate and tax structures support current and future funding structures, with the strategic wherewithal to mitigate/eliminate structural or commercial risks 
    • Actively work cross-functionally with Product, Finance, Credit, and Operations teams to provide a capital markets perspective into the business strategy and financial planning processes 
    • Support Accounting in cash management, treasury, and foreign exchange strategy
    • Support CFO in building board and executive-level presentations to guide business strategy decisions as it relates to the company’s funding plans

What you’ll need

    • 6+ years of experience in investment banking, debt markets, and related analytical finance roles, ideally with at least 3 years in a fintech
    • Emerging markets experience a plus but are not required
    • Expert level knowledge in the capital markets space with a strong understanding of financial debt instruments and ABS structured products
    • Strong knowledge of consumer lending products and the fintech landscape
    • Ability to navigate a dynamic and fast-paced environment 
    • Outstanding organizational and project management skills; possess a wide operational range to drive everything from strategic deal negotiations to detailed reporting 
    • Self-directed and works well both independently and in a team setting 
    • Highly proficient in financial modeling (Excel) and strong attention to detail 
    • Strong marketer with superb communication, deck-building, and presentation skills
    • Strong relationship-builder, both internally and externally
    • Excellent work ethic and willingness to contribute broadly to achieve team and company objectives
