Job Description:
Working with the President, the General Manager (GM) helps set the vision, direction, and culture of teams and is actively engaged in planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling. The GM will order products for retail and wholesale customers and accurately inventory the products. The GM builds relationships with vendors to get the best cost so we can provide value to our customers and grow our profits. Being able to read and comprehend the company’s financials will be key for this position so the GM knows what levers to pull in order to drive revenue, increase profits, and reduce costs whenever possible. The GM will have knowledge of employee ownership and build an inclusive and collaborative environment with the employee owners.

Primary role and responsibilities:

    • Support Office Manager in monthly inventory process.
    • Communicate with employees regarding sales and new initiatives and act in place of the President when they are absent.
    • Ensure smokehouse, wholesale, and retail are all coordinated on needs with processes and inventory scheduled to deliver on-time fulfillment.
    • Support direct reports in professional development and growth opportunities, providing regular informal and formal feedback.
    • Manage bank deposits, coordinating with the retail manager processing deposits.
    • Ensure HACCP compliance and general sanitation standards.
    • Work with the President to set and enforce standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, and professional appearance.
    • Hold weekly team meetings to ensure coordination across teams and keep trainings and safety expectations up-to-date.
    • Communicate the vision and direction of the company to employees and the community more broadly and support external initiatives to grow the company.
    • Maintain a positive attitude; create an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork.
    • Generate a friendly atmosphere by encouraging employees to greet and speak to customers; provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service to customers and set a good example.
    • Maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.

Qualifications:

    • 3-5 years experience in a similar role.
    • Demonstrated ability to set a vision and move a team towards that vision.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Familiarity with business finances and financial management.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
    • Prior experience in a food or retail setting is advantageous.
    • Must be physically able to exert up to 100 pounds of force (shared team lifting) occasionally; exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently; and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
